While scrabbling around in my piles of magic cards, looking for some deckbuilding inspiration, I came across a Meddling Mage and thought "I could really irritate people with this". After some thinking I considered the idea of a Wizard tribal deck. Not being a stranger to tribal decks, I pooled together the tribal staples, Aether Vial, Cavern of Souls and the colour combo staples, Path to Exile and Remand, then went searching though all the wizards ever to build this.
Card Choices:
Meddling Mage-
The source of my inspiration, this card reached out to me because of my local meta mostly. My locals are rife with combo decks, Storm, Scapeshift etc. And being able to lock a combo off until they can deal with it seem like the most devious thing imaginable.
Cursecatcher-
A nice removal stopper, and being able to drop this from an Aether Vial to really sneak up on people is funny.
Martyr of Frost-
Probably a contender for the "Why this card?" Award, however, I've found its a early game card that can have late game implications. For example, In a test match vs B/W Tokens my opponent attempts to cast Sorin, Solemn Visitor on turn 6, A Cursecatcher wont stop it so I tap an Aether Vial and drop Martyr of Frost in, sacrifice him and reveal 4 blue cards in hand, stalling the game out to eventually win.
Deputy Of Acquittals-
Probably second place for the "Why this card?" Award. This guy. I love this guy. The amount of shenanigans you can pull with this guy is immense. Someone trying to Path your Meddling Mage? Flash him in, return it to hand, drop the mage back in with a vial. Electrolyse my Snapcaster? Flash him in, bounce it back flash the Snap back in and Path your guy. He is the edge on an otherwise dull blade. And I love him.
I'd love to hear any suggestions,
Thanks.
(P.S The Faeries are in the maybeboard primarily because I don't own them.)
