I understand $80 isn't budget. It's not for me either but compared to tier one modern, legacy, or even standard it is extremely budget
This is a homebrew merfolk that I plan to test at FNM. It seems to work really well, even with the lame mana base and has suprisingly consistent land draw. This deck has some sideboard hate against aggro and artifacts. I think the key to this deck right now is to ramp with either (or both!) Opt and Enter the Unknown. This gives advantage and what makes this so great and reminds me of modern merfolk is that 90% of games you have a 2/2 second turn 2-3 2/2s 3rd turn and then those get buffed more and make for a really quick game.
I understand that Jace, Cunning Castaway, is not super merfolk-like, but he gives card draw and is pretty easy to duplicate in later games, giving even more card draw. And who wouldn't want a $3 Jace. Like, come on, it's JACE. XD
This isn't a super polished deck but tell me what ya be thinking about it :D
I'm also working on a Standard B/G with Winding Constrictor, Enter the Unknown, and Jadelight Ranger. It won't be too budget but might be really powerful???
