The 'Maybe Section' was ideas I had tossed around, while trying to construct a foundation for the deck.
Moving forward the general idea was to built an [Atraxa, Praetors' Voice] proliferate deck. The ideas of 'Super Friends' (loading the deck with tons of Planeswalkers) seemed fun, but then the story of Mirrodin really started weighing on my conscience.
Originally the deck was going to be 4-colors, as Atraxa was going to be The Commander, which remove Red, my least favorite and hardly ever played color. I soon found that 4-color wasn't nearly as appealing as 5-color and the concept of Morrison's suns began really sinking it's teeth into the deck.
Quickly the deck took over more lore wise, while remaining tribal with Phyrexian flavor text cards and artwork (obviously pulling heavy from the set Scars of Mirrodin). I recall reentering into MTG during that time period and having stopped playing since.
Originally I started with some 5th, 7th and 8th edition cards - a very jank deck of whatever I could play with or could find. Online sales at the time was unheard of, so if the local game store didn't have cards I wanted, then I would hope my friends would have some. One of the local stores actually sold me the three (3) promo Kaldra pieces, which at the time (and admittedly to this day) I thought were pretty cool cards.
Naturally after seeing the new [Kaldra Compleat] I knew that had to be invested into this deck. The [Plague Myr] brought back memories of playing against another friend when I was just getting into MTG. While he did not have a [Plague Myr] in his deck, he did build a Myr 60 card deck (pun intended), which included [Phyrexian Metamorph].
I own four (4) copies of each Artifact Land from the original set of 'basics'. I however did not include them simply because they are prone to destruction and I came across [Shape Anew], which sacrificing a 3/3 [Golan Token] for a single land seemed very wasteful. It seems more beneficial to 'tutor' for any other Artifact/Golem-like creature within the deck (or the few equipment pieces).
It's only few downsides are likely to be that it's not super competitive (and it's not intended to be) or that it's lore-immersion is a bit broken by [Planewide Celebration], though that is due to the cards ability to Proliferate four (4) times. It's far too good of a card to not include and perhaps could be explained as a simpler time on Mirrodin prior to The Phyrexians (advanced lifeforms) shorting out or becoming self-aware. Perhaps Kaladesh is a Mirrodin (pun intended) of what a society would have looked like had The Phyrexian not existed or is foreshadowing what Kaladesh will soon become.
Either way; this deck is years in the making, an idea floating with many variations of ways to implement. Having only some of the collection over the years to experiment with has left each card asking for a deck to call home. As the collection grew so did the never quite fading memory of MTGs 'good ole days' and finally it all comes to flourish. I am pleased with it's performance, lore-capturing and synergy.
