There are two subsections of the card pool.
Commander Pool: 90 cards.
This pool are cards that are meant to be drafted as the commanders, separate from the Main Draft Pool. Each pack will include 10 cards. When these packs are drafted the first pick will be pick 2, the remainder of the pack will be drafted one at a time. These packs will also include special "Conspiracy" cards that are designed to affect the deck building process. Each player is only allowed to use one Conspiracy card. If you draft multiple cards, you have to choose which one to use.
Main Draft Pool: 720 cards.
Each pack will consist of 20 cards, with 2 cards per pick.
Each player will select 3 packs from the Main Draft Pool and 1 from the Commander Pool. The draft order will go Main Pool (Left) -> Main Pool (Right) -> Commander Pool (Left) -> Main Pool (Right).
In addition to their packs, each player will receive a Command Tower, Commander's Sphere, Opal Palace, and Prismatic Piper. Each player will end up with approximately 74 cards (not including basic lands) to make a 60 card commander deck.
The minimum number of cards is 60, including the commander(s). It is generally recommended for each deck to run to 23-25 lands.
Archetypes:
There are archetypes built into each color pair, most of the multi-colored cards (commanders and regular) are designed with their particular archetype in mind. These archetypes are designed to act as guidelines, showing you good synergies, but feel free to be creative and mix and match as you see fit. Many cards are dedicated to these particular archetypes with several cards in each color purposely chosen that can enhance or support multiple archetypes. Some cards are just generically good in their colors as well.
