Combination of the key cards Resurgent Belief and Shark Typhoon!
I'm looking for my personal deck for each format, this being my Modern-variant.
There's the Living End card, and when I saw the Resurgent Belief card, I thought to myself, something like that must work for enchantments, too!
1st question: Which enchantments can be discarded and how well? (e.g. cycling, channel)
2nd question: Can I cheat Resurgent Belief into the game via cascade spells? (no, doesn't harmonize with the deck)
3rd question: How do I win? (Key cards should be Unpredictable Cyclone, Yidaro, Wandering Monster, Shark Typhoon and Leyline Binding)
Who wouldn't want to win with flying sharks or a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
This is a control deck, which is intended to gain a playing advantage through combos/synergies. :
The deck plays 2 triple lands, where you can play Leyline Binding for only {w}. If Shark Typhoon is on the battlefield, you can cast Leyline Binding, send it to your hand via Reprieve, and then play Leyline Binding again.
This gives you instantspeed for only {1}{w}{w}{w} 2x 6/6s and 1x 2/2 flying sharks.
If Unpredictable Cyclone and Shark Typhoon are on the battleflied and you then cycle a card, this spell is also cast so that Shark Typhoon triggers. So with a bit of luck you get a 7/7 shark for {2} and take over an opponent's permanent.
If Unpredictable Cyclone is on the battlefield and you then cycle Yidaro, Wandering Monster, it shuffles back into the deck before Unpredictable Cyclone acts. Since there are no other creatures in the deck, the enchantment will automatically find Yidaro, Wandering Monster. So for {1}{r} you get an 8/8 trample haste creature.
Who doesn't want to win with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
If Unpredictable Cyclone is on the battlefield and you then cycle Sweltering Sun, you'll automatically find Resurgent Belief since there are no other sorceries in the deck.
If Unpredictable Cyclone and Hall of Heliod's Generosity are on the battlefield and you then cycle an enchantment, you can respond by putting any enchantment from your graveyard onto your library with Hall of Heliod's Generosity so that the randomness is no longer random.
You could also theoretically use the same enchantment you cycled. You need an average of 5 lands for this, although it makes less sense with small enchantments, but there are also more expensive enchantments where you even save mana. And it happens instantspeed!
Total of 28 cards:
1x Raugrin Triome
1x Zagoth Triome
2x Cast Out
4x Lay Claim
4x Shark Typhoon
2x Unpredictable Cyclone
3x Sterling Grove
3x Izzet Charm
3x Reprieve
1x Sweltering Suns
3x Teferi, Time Raveler
1x Yidaro, Wandering Monster
Due to the strong card draw elements, you can find Resurgent Belief on the one hand and on the other hand you rarely miss landdrops, so that more expensive cards can also be cast.
Therefore, you don't have to rely 100% on Resurgent Belief!
Total of 22 cards:
4x Gain Control (Lay Claim)
6x Bounce (Teferi, Time Raveler, Reprieve)
3x Counter (Izzet Charm)
12x Removel (Izzet Charm, Seal of Fire, Cast Out, Leyline Binding, Temporary Lockdown, Sweltering Suns)
The opponent's life is continuously drained, with the main finishers being Shark Typhoon, Starfield of Nyx and Yidaro, Wandering Monster.
I will report my experiences with this deck in this section.
28 players, 5 rounds swiss (2:3), Top 8 played
1st Match vs Affinity (Win 2:1)
1st Game (Lose): The opponent built up too much pressure too quickly, and the first game was over quickly.
2nd Game (Win): After sideboarding, there was a lot in the deck against Affinity, and the sideboard cards could be picked out via Sterling Grove. Temporary Lockdown and Porphery Nodes kept the artifacts at bay, winning with a couple of Flying Sharks.
3rd Game (Win): The next turn, Porphery Nodes kept the opponent at bay again and Shark Typhoon came through Resurgent Belief turn 4, reanimating the sacrificed Porphery Nodes as well. I had to sacrifice 2/2 Sharks myself in the meantime, but 2x 6/6 + 2x 2/2 Sharks finished off the artifacts.
2nd Match vs Rhinos (Lose 0:2)
1st Game (Lose): It was a good exchange of blows. In the end, I lost because a hard-cast Shark Typhoon was countered via Force of Negation. I even had an Izzet Charm, but my opponent had exactly 2 mana left.
2nd Game (Lose): The next game was also a nice exchange of blows, although unfortunately my resources ran out faster than my opponent's. #Need_Massremovel
3rd Match vs Jeskai Control (Win 2:1)
1st Game (Lose): I was able to cheat Shark Typhoon into play quickly via Resurgent Belief and build up some control, but a taken shark from Archmage's Charm had broken my neck.
2nd Game (Win): The match up wasn't bad in principle and I couldn't board much in, but the Cindervines, small Sharks and Kaheera, the Orphanguard gave the opponent the rest.
3rd Game (Win): The last game was the most exciting of the whole tournament. An exchange of blows with the Sharks taking over etc. During the turns, I finished over a hard-cast Yidaro, Wandering Monster, who saved me from a draw thanks to haste.
4th Match vs Merfolk (Lose 0:2)
1st Game (Lose): The opponent spit so many merfolk onto the battlefield that I couldn't trade them all, and 2 mutavaults finished me off.
2nd Game (Lose): The second game was the first time I had mana problems, although I was able to draw some cards through cycling.
5th Match vs Elemental (Lose 0:2)
1st Game (Lose): A turn 2 Voice of Resurgence hindered my game so much that I was always slightly behind.
2nd Game (Lose): After sideboarding, I was able to keep up better. However, I kept getting damage and when I was able to slowly build up control, I only had 3 health left, which was finished off by his Kaheera, the Orphanguard. By reanimating Lay Claims, I was able to steal 2 lands from my opponent, which gave me a head start.
Fazit:
Porphyry Nodes, Temporary Lockdown and Cindervines have proven themselves as sideboard cards in several games. However, I don't have enough Massremovel against creature-heavy decks, which is why I'll probably increase the number of Temporary Lockdown in the future and possibly include Supreme Verdict. Maybe even something in the mainboard.
Sterling Grove has also allowed me to tutor up enchantment sideboard cards, so I can stay really flexible with sideboard cards.
I also got a lot of damage from shocklands myself to cover the 4-5 colors well. I'm thinking about swapping some shocklands for checklands.
The fun factor was gigantic!
And for it being my first test, I'm very satisfied, and I think that if this deck is further optimized, it can keep up with established decks.
