Tainted Remedy (Modern)

As the title suggests, this deck is based off of Tainted Remedy. The idea is to play defensively- gaining life, preventing damage, drawing cards- until you hit Idyllic Tutor or Tainted Remedy. After that all of the lifegain spells become the world's best burn spells. It's definitely a gimmicky deck, but in all honesty there is potential here to take games away from Tier 1 decks post-sideboard.

The entire reason this deck might be good is that most modern decks have stopped including dedicated combo removal like Slaughter Games or Stain the Mind. Those cards destroy a linear deck like this since Tainted Remedy is our only real win condition. After sideboard, its possible you could include Serra Ascendant to try and have multiple win-conditions, but then the deck would fold to any old removal spell. It's a tricky position to be in, but since the metagame has moved away from those types of sideboard hopefully this deck might see some small success. In my opinion the two biggest weaknesses of this deck are opponent's who can out damage our life gain before we can get out Tainted Remedy, combo, and discard. In order to combat those problems, the majority of the sideboard is dedicated to cards that are good against all of the most aggressive decks in the format. Leyline of Sanctity is crucially also good against discard heavy decks, and rest in peace hoses a good portion of combo and midrange in the current format. Serra ascendant is included specifically for the tron matchup, or really any deck that requires a clock to be put on them.
