Please select the columns you would like to see:

Anger of the Gods - where pyroclasm is too small, and cards like Kitchen Finks are prevalent. In my meta I don't need much reason to mainboard these aggro-killing mini-sweepers.

Inquisition - because so many of moderns cards are CMC 3 or less.. love this card.

Intangible Virtue - I've taken it in and out, but in most games it turns Elemental and Spirit tokens into big-time damage dealers. Only 2. Run 4 and 4 Honor the Pure if you're going for hardcore tokens. I prefer the more control side.

Kolaghan's Command - Card advantage. Mainly two damage and a discard spell at instant speed, also great for getting back your precious Brimaz or Kalitas at the end of their turn.

Lightning Bolt - Because, Lightning Bolt. Because, Red. Because.

Lightning Helix - Removal. Face Damage. Offsets loss of life from Lands and creatures that get through.

Lingering Souls - My favorite card in modern. 4 bodies from one card. Pure card advantage. The main little damage dealers.. blockers.. best modern card in black+white IMO.

Magma Jet - Damage + setting up your deck. Scry away unwanted lands or spells.

Painful Truths - With so many low cost cards you're bound to run out at times. I think no more than 2, trying 1 right now. I only like to see one in a game. But if its 5-6th turn.. I like seeing it.

Path to Exile - Play carefully to avoid giving your opponent extra UNTAPPED mana. Still one of the best removal spells in modern for the cost. Amazing against Dredge and other graveyard-manipulating decks.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor - Beautiful synergy with tokens with his +1. His -2 gives you a flying token if you don't already have tokens. Great guy.

Terminate - One of modern's best removal spells. Played with 2, 4, and 2, in the sideboard. Usually the other removal spells are enough where only two are necessary. Better for decks with fat creatures than the burn spells.

Timely Reinforcements - Wildly underused card. Or maybe I just don't mind playing around it. Sometimes when you draw it in your opening hand you smile, knowing you can fetch and shock worry-free to get that inquisition or bolt on the first turn... It's obviously great when you're on the losing side and you are top-decking in a pinch... But it only works in the right deck and the player has to be willing to create the right moment for it. So, make your own decision.

Brimaz and Kalitas - Amazing cards for their cost and both generate tokens.. great synergy with many other cards in the deck

Young Pyromancer - Token Producer. Beautiful synergy with Lingering Souls. Great in a deck heavy with instants and sorceries.

wear//tear - for blood moon, affinity, other enchantments
rest in peace - for dredge, living end, any reanimator, ect.
duress - for blood moon and other control
boros charm - for planeswalkers, board wipe.

Gurmag Angler - great if you don't have the colors for Tasigur, works well with fetch lands and low cost spell-heavy decks

Abbot of Whatever Keep - Pretty great guy, but I've leaned a bit towards Mardu Tokens even with this build, and decided on Young Pyromancer. Abbot is a close second, and preferable to some people. If I did run the Abbot, I'd consider taking out intangible virtue and possibly re-tool other aspects.

Monastery Mentor - To the card: "Oh god you're good Monastery Mentor.. you're really good. But you're 2 toughness has gotten you killed too many times in my experience. You're really a better 4th turn card.. when i can get some value out of you even if you're going to die... You might make it into another build someday.. because just one of you can create a powerful and meddlesome board presence, if you live long enough.."
