This deck is a budget take on the cEDH deck doomsday. That deck is very expensive, and one of the main limiting factors in building doomsday is that the typical combo involves using Yawgmoth's Will and Lion's Eye Diamond which is more than 2/3 of the budget of this deck. Due to this restriction we have to get creative with our piles in order to keep them efficient. Doomsday decks tend to have the goal of casting their namesake card, and winning the game right away. In order to do so, you will only cast Doomsday with a cantrip like Preordain in hand and enough mana available to draw through the rest of your cards. Typically this would lose you the game, but you also need to find a way to get Laboratory Maniac in play. A sample pile from top to bottom would be something like Gush, Dark Ritual, Night's Whisper, Gitaxian Probe, Laboratory Maniac. To win with this pile after playing doomsday you would cast your opener, say Ponder drawing Gush. Play Gush for it's alternate drawing 2. Dark Ritual into Night's Whisper. Play your Lab Maniac, then cast probe paying 2 life (target yourself with probe because a salty opponent can scoop in response and cause the spell to fizzle). This pile however is quite inefficient requiring 1UB and 2 islands on top of your opener spell's cost and Doomsday. The non-budget doomsday deck has a technically free pile although it requires having 4 islands making it incredibly slow. The most efficient piles I have found require at least 2 mana which is significantly slower than the cEDH deck. The piles I've found are Gush + Faithless Looting + Laboratory Maniac + Unearth + Gitaxian Probe. This pile requires RB + 2 islands + 1 card to discard. The piles do get more efficient if our opener is Thought Scour or Mental Note. We can open with one of the 2, draw Gush milling Laboratory Maniac and another card. We then Gush for Unearth + Gitaxian Probe. We Unearth our Lab man then cast probe for the win. If we think our opponent has a kill spell for our Laboratory Maniac, there are a few piles we can make. The first is a protection pile of Gush + Pact of Negation + Night's Whisper + Laboratory Maniac + Gitaxian Probe. This is a type of pile that can be edited to suit our needs. If we need protection the second slot becomes Pact of Negation. If we need mana we can replace the pact with Dark Ritual. Because it has a free slot this pile is very adaptable to any situation although it is quite mana intensive. I feel like there is probably a more mana efficient protection pile so if you have any ideas let me know. If you think an opponent has many ways to kill a creature, the pile can be changed as well. Your pile can circumvent the need for lab man if you have 3 total mana in mana rocks you can make a pile of Gush + Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal + Aetherflux Reservoir + Any card you want. This pile works because you can generate infinite mana of off the Dramatic Scepter combo. You then cast Kess (note that you need to have the right colors for her available) and flashback Gush. Then you play Aetherflux Reservoir and since the storm count in infinite, using the Isochron Scepter one more time will gain you enough life to kill your opponents. If Doomsday gets exiled, Demonic Consultation can also win you the game. If you cast it naming Lab Maniac and it isn't in the top 6 cards (which will happen around 7% of the time or so) you can find you lab man. You can then in the following turns replay your lab man and recast the Demonic Consultation with Kess naming a card not in your library. With 0 cards in library you cast a cantrip and then win off of lab man. The deck takes a lot of thinking and the more you play with it the better you will get. This deck doesn't aim to play turbo combo instead trying to play a more controlling game, then once all of your opponent's resources are spent stopping other players, you can go off. It does require a little bit of "Spidey Sense" to know when to cast doomsday and when to wait. The last important type of pile in the deck are Predict piles. A typical one could be Predict + Laboratory Maniac + Unearth + Gush + Whatever, allowing you to win with 1UB off a pile starter. I think the idea of budget doomsday can really be pushed further with time and interest and I am open to any suggestions on how to improve this deck.
