This is my current Xenagos, God of Revels deck. If you like attacking with top curve nerd smashers this is the deck for you.
There are a couple engines that really make the deck go. One of the most powerful is the Birthing Pod chain. It really lends a lot to the deck when you can search up an Acidic Slime or Reclamation Sage to take care of artifacts and enchantments or Deus of Calamity to take care of problematic lands. Aside from the pod there is also a lot of power+toughness redundancy to get the most out of Wild Pair. These are two of my favorite engines to combine, but they require you to know the deck very well. The high creature density also makes Lurking Predators particularly potent. I finally managed to get a Tooth and Nail, so now you can grab such combinations as Pathbreaker Ibex and Malignus or Hydra Omnivore and Nylea, God of the Hunt.
The use of so many high-power creatures can be easily abused by power-based enchantments such as Warstorm Surge and Where Ancients Tread. Warstorm surge is particularly abusable with all the high power aggro creatures in this deck.
Creatures with such high power are also useful for cards like Momentous Fall, Garruk, primal Hunter and Soul's Majesty to keep your grip full. Damage output is also important to draw cards with things like Knollspine Dragon and Hunter's Insight.
One of the best things to have is Cream of the Crop. This card, in conjunction with Soul of the Harvest or Garruk's Packleader means you can stack the triggers to look at the top X cards of your library (equal to the creature's power), pick one, put it on top, and then draw it. So if you play a Hunted Troll you can choose a card from your top 8!
One of the best ways to take advantage of Xenagod's ability is to double damage. Dictate of the Twin Gods and Gratuitous Violence are the best ways to do that. You can also reactivate Xenagod with multiple combat steps using Aggravated Assault or Hellkite Charger. Also, Mage Slayer essentially doubles damage a creature deals to a player. These damage-doublers are very potent with Hydra Omnivore. What you do is activate Xenagod to make the hydra a 16/16, then attack and flash in the Dictate of the Twin Gods so the hydra deals 32 to the defending player, then the Dictate kicks in again and doubles the damage to all your other opponents for 64 damage.
With so many creatures it's important to protect them. Spellbreaker Behemoth and Spearbreaker behemoth are two of my favorite ways to do this. The best thing to do is drop an early threat like Markov Blademaster or Falkenrath Exterminator and take out the guy that will give you the most trouble, this is most likely the guy packing tons of wraths.
If your opponents have blockers it's important to get past them with trample or flying. A lot of the big beaters have it built-in, like Soul of the Harvest or any of the Dragons. If not you can drop Nylea, God of the Hunt or Brawn to give your whole team trample. This deck is also a natural fit for Skarrg, the Rage Pits and Kessig Wolf Run.
If none of these plans work you can always Earthquake the table to death or drop a huge Genesis Wave to overwhelm the table with dudes. This deck absolutely loved the printing of Chandra's Ignition. The plan of the deck isn't to get Xenagod to be a creature, in fact he's less vulnerable as an enchantment. Don't overextend and keep the pressure focused in on one opponent at a time.
Let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm always down to try new things, but I'm also a bit of a budget player so I usually don't spend more than three or four dollars on a card. This deck is a lot of fun so give it a try if you're looking for an aggro deck that doesn't use land destruction. And make sure to let me know what you think!
