This deck is me wanting to pay homage to a member of the earliest group of PDH legendary creatures. After the old guard of the legends from Legends/Homelands/Kamigawa, there were a total of 7 legendary creatures that got downshifted from rare.
I made Jalira, Master Polymorphist a few months back, but had difficulty making Bladewing. That's because Bladewing's an odd bird. He's an ETB dragon reanimator with board-wide firebreathing. That's awesome! Dragon tribal in pauper is too cool not to try. What's the catch?
At 7 mana, he's extremely clunky. And pauper unfortunately has little to give us in the way of dragons. Temur dragons would give us options, or at least just being able to add blue or green instead of black which gives us nothing but its changelings, but working with what we have, there are 26 total dragons, and we're playing ALL of them except for Universal Automaton, because... ya'know... 1 mana 1/1 with no abilities.
I feel like with the Battle for Baldur's Gate dragonborn "dragons" added, we have enough for Bladewing to at least be playable, but like with Jalira, he's a weak deck. The idea was there to try using false death effects on him then sacrificing him for value to also get his ETB multiple times, but that ultimately felt too difficult/clunky and took up too many cards in the deck for too little value when our dragon pool is this weak. Instead, I'm going for combat damage/buffs. Let's try that out and see if we can win some games!
