Inspired by SaffronOlive's Inspiring U-Drazi deck, which attempts to ramp up to casting big eldrazi with Inspiring Statuary.
I'm not the best Magic player, but my playtests were not very encouraging. Fast aggro decks can easily get in enough damage and spot-remove creatures before the magical combo pieces of Key and Statuary come together to start the beatdown engine. For example, it was rare in my testing to have enough mana to cast Confirm Suspicions...unless Statuary was already in hand. New Amonkhet 1-drops are even more brutal, so this deck had to adapt.
SaffronOlive claims that his insight was that Inspiring Statuary doesn't need a LOT of artifacts to run. Just a couple can put you ahead of the mana curve. In the spirit of this, I rework the deck to be more aggressive. The artifact-ramp is now:
1 - Thraben Inspector: Creates clues and can chump-block
1 - Toolcraft Exemplar: Becomes beast when you've got more clues. Can crew Heart.
2 - Key, or Ongoing Investigation, or Heart
3 - trophy mage, or Harvester, or Statuary
4 - thought-knot seer, or emerge Deep Fiend from Trophy Mage
5 - tutor & emerge another Deep Fiend.
The deck wins with card advantage and pseudo-mana ramp created by Inspiring Statuary and Key To The City -- Statuary makes it possible to tap the Key to generate "improvise mana" instead of by discarding a card, drawing a lot of cards over time. As soon as you hit a Deep Fiend you can sacrifice Sanctum of Ugin to tutor up another, or whatever other horrible monster you put in as a target. From there victory should be in your grasp.
To keep the Trophy Mages from being dead draws after the Statuary is installed, Aethersphere Harvester and Deadlock Trap are provided as secondary targets. They can be tapped as mana rocks by Statuary at least but offer situational answers.
