As upstanding members of the consul there is the worrying possibility that your colleges, friends, family members, rebels, local woodland creatures driving trains, or inter-dimensional planar beings may attempt to murder you.
However how can you be sure of this, and what should you do in such a scenario?
The first thing you should do is check if your potential murderer is trying to reduce your life total below 20. This is a classic sign that they intend to murder you in the coming days. Now take a moment to think about what you should do in response. Most rebels would say something like "Murder them first", this is of course illegal. You should do the sensible thing and have the individual sentenced under proper consul justice.
Don't be afraid to scrutinize what your potential murder is doing: Serving the consul - Good, sending woodland creatures to commandeer trains - Bad. Always press for answers: Why did the bandar need to commandeer the train, and drive it directly into your house at 3am? Why was there a rail line leading directly into the side of your house? Why are so many of Ghirapur's vehicles designed to be crewed by woodland creatures?
By this point you should have managed to collect some evidence. This is good, but remember you can't just mass produce this stuff, you'll be expect to have 8 separate pieces of evidence to secure a conviction.
Be sure to follow the trail of evidence. Look for moments in the whir and noise of the city to steal borrow your potential murderers journal and really pore over the pages, innocuous lines like "I murdered six people with trains this week and the consul knows nothing, the fools! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha..." can often prove to be the lynch pin of a strong prosecution.
Where possible confirm your suspicions about who exactly designed the trains and laid the track. Also be sure to commune with the dead. People involved in conspiracies to murder you with trains will often murder other people who know too much, or too little, or just the right amount of information about the conspiracy, however often overlook obvious things like exercising their spirits to prevent them from solving their own murders.
Remember you may need to improvise, and reverse engineer the trains to find the relevant evidence. Take time out from the case to visit the sights of Ghirapur. This break will give you the inspiration you need to start randomly shuffling your evidence in an intimidating manner, this kind of wild investigation will often terrify potential murderers into making mistakes, like letting you pay for spells with evidence, or saying things like "I'm going to murder you next Tuesday with a train crewed by a rhinoceros".
Finally you should contact Baral, Chief of Compliance. He's the kind of upstanding member of the consul, with an axe for a hand, who can prosecute these kinds of malcontents. He'll be sure to read through your evidence, and present it to a court of himself for swift consul axe hand based justice.
Congratulations, you've just survived being potentially murdered! Now get back to work, we need you to design an airship that can be crewed by sea turtles.
