Massacre Girl has given me the chance to finally try my hand at building a mono black EDH deck, so I've tried to stick to some of the staples of the color, while still including some of my own flavor.
All the cards in the Side Board are potentially worth being in this deck, but I've listed the 5 that I am going back and forth on, trying to find the most honed list. I do not actually play with a sideboard and am just using that section for deck building purposes. The maybe board is where I've left some ideas lingering, just in case something changes and one of them sparks something.
Nonbos:
There is a dis-synergy between the cards that make each opponent sacrifice a creature, and genesis chamber or akroan horse, but i am wondering if it's fine. Only play-testing will answer that. For now, I've left out any of the fleshbag maurader creatures, but still see a lot of value in dictate of Erebos. I don't mind that I run heretical healer, which can flip and make all players discard, while also running necropotence. yes, exiling my own spells is unfortunate, but a fair cost to hate on enemy hands and stay at 7 all game. Against some of my initial thoughts, I decided that the creatureless mana doubler of caged sun is worth running, despite it pumping some of my 1/1 tokens out of skullclamp use, or clean Massacre Girl killing. On a related note, because my commander is often going to wrath the board when she ETBs, I've opted out of the creature mana doublers. They're frail, and while I can reanimate them, I just don't think it's worth it with the amount of ramp of which this deck is already capable. Jet medallion dislikes a large number of black spells with no generic mana in their cost, but my pal, phyrexian obliterator is the pet of the deck. There's a good spot for that damnation if you disagree. The necropotence is inredibly important however, and likely belongs. I do think that liliana, dreadhorde general could replace the dark prophecy, but as I mention in a not on the Got-Eternal Bontu, my group doesn't allow Mass Land Destruction, which her ultimate most certainly is. If they allow her for some reason, however, she will take bontu's spot.
Now that I've covered some of the weaknesses in the build, here are certain key pieces:
Vedalken Orrery, a boogeyman of the EDH format, is going to give this heavily sorcery-speed deck a lot of extra safety. So far I've managed to play the orrery once, and threatening to wipe the field with an instant speed MG or flashing in a phyrexian obliterator to block a huge attacker bring a lot to this deck.
The ratio of sac outlets to token makers is delicate, as they both combine into a category of enablers for the aristocrat payoffs, and has been tested a decent amount. I'm still looking for any left out exceptionally strong sources of 1/1 tokens.
There are many powerful artifacts and creatures in this deck, which the beacon of unrest intends to protect.
I've yet to consider any synergies based on Massicre girl's sub types, or keyword menace. Including equipment such as jitte and sword of feast and famine is an option guaranteed to yield good results, but I don't own the sword, and am leaning this deck away from equipment, and closer to control. I never want to feel forced to play MG for no value when I have other options
Edit - 1/19/23
I've made many changes and tried different win cons. My proclivity towards less identifiable win cons and dislike of torment of hailfire means that most victories with this deck either come very slowly and painfully for my opponents or by the good graces of a bolas' citadel turn. Sometimes my opponents just get out-resourced by a sacrificed mindslicer or board wiped too many times. Most often though, I use tutors for what I need in the moment, and wait till a combo piece shows up before even trying to go infinite.
razaketh with a lot of mana/creatures is a good way to win. Phyrexian Altar must not hit the gy-- not since I cut beacon of unrest for having too high a mana cost-- because then all hopes of going infinite and stealing a win from most situations rest in my opponents shuffling the gy back into the library.
I've encountered at most a handful of other massacre girl decks, and most of them seem intent on using vehicles. This option seems fun, but less likely to catch people off guard.
Some of the more recent swaps I've made is to remove thrilling encore, a card which most often would make winning off bolas citadel slightly easier, but almost never steal opponents boarstates, with sheoldred, the apocalypse.
