The plan is to play a fair game of value creatures with recurrence or strong abilities, and small amounts of disruption.
The deck was previously splashing blue for Prized Amalgums, creeping tar pit, and Ashiok with some more discard in Cryptbreakers, but I decided on mono black, because it's much more consistent and allows me much better match ups against blood moons and fields of ruin.
The stipulations are that Korlash, Phyrexian Obliterator, and Gray Merchant all work in the deck somehow. (I've since removed all 4 korlashes with deep sorrow, for they are just not cool enough dudes, getting stuck in my hand and taking up the spot of 2 drops) I'm not looking for some crazy synergy, but reliably good top decks as I don't have card draw, and a nice curve which can still utilize a potential influx of mana without sacrificing consistency. Collective Brutality takes up the creature heavy 2-drop spot and therefore is likely not good for this deck, which wants to be putting bodies on the board over playing spells to build towards a stronger Gray Merchant, but it also lets us discard GraveCrawlers and/or Blood Ghasts.
Sidisi helps fetch for specific answers or a Gray Merchant, and gives a great blocker if necessary which should be coming down after most opponents Path to Exiles would be used on some of the recurring creatures played before it.
The two Lilis in the main might not belong in the deck either, but are the only Lilis I have. Without many blockers, they'll often die early, but all their modes are strong in this deck, and I personally like having mainboard silver bullets against control decks.
So to sum up what this deck might need to become a bit closer to viable (keep in mind Gray Merchant and his demand for devotion): Some card that can utilize a potential influx of mana without sacrificing too much consistency (no black level up creatures make the cut).
I've left in quite a bit of the thought process to building this deck. It's still not perfect, and is certainly greedy with the Dark confidant potentially killing us dead, but it's easy enough to swap out that pet card of mine for a 4th bloodghast. Also, the ghastlord of fugue is another pet card and should likely be a second bitterblossom. The 1-ofs are just my financial limitations. The first and most important upgrade in my opinion is a second bitterblossom, but I have yet to test the deck since making recent changes. Will report back.
