Hi there fellow MTG Players! After you saw EDH only from me in the last couple of months here's my first attempt to build a legacy deck. So let's get startet with the deck tech:

  1. Why Legacy?

there are three main reasons why I chose legacy as the 1 vs 1 format for me:
a) It's the coolest 1 vs 1 format MTG has to offer: most interaction, best cards and fastest decks out of every format (except vintage)
b) I had the money to afford a legacy deck
c) There's a very nice legacy community in my hometown, much better than the modern one

  1. Why Aluren?
Aluren is a grindy creature deck with an "oops, I win"-button. You actually can take on the grind vs most Delver/Bug/czech Pile decks. Even miracle is doable. You don't have to win with Aluren, you can just do 20 dmg with Leovold, Strix and Deathrite shaman. Still comboing off turn 3-4 is the more common wincon this deck has to offer, so let's get into this!

  2. The "bulletproof" combo
I call the combo "bulletproof" because it even works if your opponent has one instant speed spot removal. The second one would interrupt the combo, but hey, there are forces and discard for that. So here's how the combo works:
Requirements: Aluren in Play and Recruiter of the Guard in the hand

  3. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting a second copy

  4. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting a third copy

  5. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting Quickling (we leave the last copy in the deck because why not)

  6. Cast Quickling, return Recruiter of the Guard to your hand (it doesn't target so your opponent can't do anything in response)

  7. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting the second Quickling

  8. Cast the second Quickling, returning Recruiter of the Guard to your hand

  9. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting Cavern harpy

  10. Cast Cavern Harpy, returning Quickling to your hand (here's why you need 2 Quickling, otherwise your opponent could remove the one in response)

  11. Cast Quickling, return Recruiter of the Guard to your hand

  12. Cast Recruiter of the Guard, getting Parasitic Strix

  13. Bounce and recast Cavern Harpy to return one Quickling (#safety reasons, you can skip this if you can't afford the 1 life)

  14. Bounce Cavern Harpy, now you have both combo pieces in hand

  15. Cast Cavern Harpy, put the bounce trigger on the stack

  16. With the bounce trigger still on the stack, cast Parasitic Strix, draining your opponent for 2

  17. Let the Cavern Harpy trigger Resolve to bounce Parasitic Strix

  18. Repeat steps 12-15 until your opponent is dead
