I wanted to brew a fun Prowess-Deck for casual play at the kitchen table.
There are a lot of choices for it and I started with a pretty bad Jeskai version, including Jeskai Elder, Artful Maneuver, Emerge Unscathed, Niblis of Frost, Bloodwater Entity, Jeskai Ascendancy, Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest, Sheltering Light, Distortion Strike and Chained to the Rocks.
The idea was to be able to handle about anything the opponent could throw at my creatures while dealing a lot of damage every turn. Of course it's not really consistent, because I don't own a ton of dual lands and the draws have to be perfect to make the deck work as intended.
I realized this decks works best if it's aggressive, so I cut white and lowered the average CMC. Some cards turned out to be bad pretty fast while playtesting, i.e. Bloodwater Entity (I liked the idea of a budget Snapcaster, but putting a spell on the library doesn't do much in this deck).
I also realized the most important thing is to keep drawing to be able to fuel the prowess creatures (running cards like Thing in the Ice, Bedlam Reveler or Delver of Secrets would help to deal damage more consistent, since they aren't dependent on casting spells every turn). It's even more important than it is for other aggro decks, but there are also more options to draw.
I really liked Deep Analysis, because the other spells are really cheap and if the game doesn't end fast there were turns in which I couldn't use all my mana (see Faithless Looting). Also I can cast it again or throw it away first to cast it cheaper. However, my meta is aggro heavy and Mutagenic Growth already costs 2 life and is too good to not include it. So the I almost never used Deep Analysis' Flashback. Treasure Cruise seems really good here, I will test it when i get it, but for now Curious Obsession draws me a ton of cards and is pretty budget. The card is devastating if it can't be handled and a high number of haste creatures does make it a lot stronger. I also switched out Soul-Scar Mage for Abbot of Keral Keep to have more card advantage, but this one is up for debate.
There are some cards that are an obvious upgrade to the deck, although these are often very expensive (Snapcaster Mage, Thing in the Ice, Manamorphose).
The Mana Base only includes lands that I own, it should be improved but it runs fine as it is.
I'm happy to discuss anything about the deck and I'm open for suggestions (maybe even playtested?) or different shots at the deck.
