Sultai Climb (Standard)

Updated Sultai Energy deck, post-banning. We play Jadelight Ranger and Hadana's Climb for counters to make up for the lost energy.

Warkite + Ballista answers everything in standard except Bristling Hydra and Carnage Tyrant. Warkite + Cartouche is super strong vs aggro.

UPDATE 29/01:

Found myself siding Warkite Marauder out every match. x/1s are terrible against Path of Mettle decks. The engine is so good that it doesn't need Rishkar, Peema Renegade anymore so they've come out. Have added 2x Essence Scatter because it's just so much easier than dealing with Hazoret the Fervent or Glorybringer after the fact. This deck has really good game in the midrange matchups, especially vs ground based decks like dinos and merfolk. I'm adding Golden Demise for aggro and Vraska, Relic Seeker and Lifecrafter's Bestiary for control. Given the number of cards at 3cmc I'm moving from Appetite of the Unnatural to Naturalize. At the 2cmc slot I've put 2 Kitesail Freebooter to help protect the snake/climb engine, but I could be persuaded that it's right to put 2 Longtusk Cub back in. Also I have added a Torrential Gearhulk in the side because the games have been going a little longer and because I miss my Gearhulks.

Mana wise I've moved things around a bit, going up to the full 4 Fetid Pools as they are so good to cycle away after picking them up with Jadelight Ranger.

UPDATE 03/02: have taken Gearhulk out of the side in favour of another Vraska's Contempt. There are simply too many phoenixes and gods of various descriptions right now to justify a 6 drop instead.

UPDATE 05/02: went 3-3 at a PPTQ with this list! Nearly made Top 8 (one bad decision away). Didn't really find a good time to use Nissa but the Mardu match up is incredibly bad, so I've taken Nissa out and put the 4th Deathgorge Scavenger in. It's the make-or-break card in the aggro match up.

UPDATE 23/02: fiddled with the mana a bit again, post-board there are a lot of BB spells so I have swapped the lone Island for an extra Swamp to hit the double black more reliably.
