This deck is from our new podcast Mull to 3, Episode 5 'Half-Hour of Devastation' (https://www.spreaker.com/user/mullto3/episode-5-half-hour-of-devastation) posted on the 4th of July 2017.
Overview
The Rock is bascially a BG "goodstuff" midrange deck. The cards in it aren't necessarily synergistic, but powerful on their own. The deck tries to win by whittling down each players resources and turning the game into a top deck battle, where the strength of this deck's cards will hopefully win out.
Mainboard:
Threats like Deathrite Shaman, Tarmogoyf, Grim Flayer and Tireless Tracker will win games if left unchecked. Dark Confidant, Grim Flayer and Sylvan Library provide card selection or advantage.
Thoughtseize, Hymn to Tourach, Collective Brutality and Liliana of the Veil are used to turn the game into one of limited resources. The latter two also providing options for removal, to go along with Fatal Push and Abrupt Decay.
Green Sun's Zenith will become more important when Ramunap Excavator is released.
Life from the Loam + Wasteland can provide a lock to close out a game.
Overgrown Tombs are a budget call, Bayous #3 and #4 would be preferable.
Sideboard:
Engineered Plague is for Elves, True-Name Nemesis, DnT.
Fatal Push is for a third copy against decks it is castable against.
Golgari Charm is mainly for decks with many X/1s, though it can hit important enchantments.
Grafdigger's Cage is for Reanimator, Elves and Dredge mainly.
Hymn to Tourach #4 is for combo decks, this is a card on the chopping block, not happy with it's existence in the board.
Krosan Grip is powerful enchantment/artifact removal.
Lost Legacy punishes combo decks reliant on certain cards.
Maelstrom Pulse is versatile removal.
Pithing Needle is a common sideboard card.
Scavenging Ooze is a Green Sun's Zenith target as well as graveyard hate. Also brought in to fight against opposing Tarmogoyfs.
Surgical Extraction is my graveyard hate of choice.
Tireless Tracker are for when you expect graveyard hate to be boarded in against you, especially Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void. Your Deathrite Shaman, Tarmogoyf and Grim Flayers all become fairly anemic against those cards, so you are more reliant on Tireless Tracker.
Other/Future Options
Ramunap Excavator is a Green Sun's Zenith target to help Wasteland lock people.
Toxic Deluge is a card that will be added to the sideboard shortly.
Garruk Relentless is a possible win con out of the sideboard.
