To play your deck at an official ("DCI-sanctioned") tournament you need a deck registration sheet. Here you can download such a sheet pre-filled with the cards in this deck!
Please note: This is not an official DCI service. So please always make extra sure that the sheet contains all the cards in your deck and fulfils all DCI requirements. If you notice anything wrong, please let us know. DCI is a trademark of of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
The strategy of this deck is to establish the Eternal Witness / Cryptic Command lock by looping Eternal Witness (cast by Aether Vial) to get back Cryptic Command from your graveyard and cast it with your open mana (often countering/tapping and bouncing E-Wit back to your hand to repeat the process).
My approach to this deck is not to disrupt and pressure, but to win through chip damage and value generation.
I formerly worked on a Bant Eternal Command list utilizing Wall of Omens, Path to Exile, and Spell Queller among others white spells. I'm not entirely convinced white is the correct splash in a world with Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Spell Queller isn't great with more Lightning Bolts running around to kill Jace, and Path ramps my opponent to both Jace and Bloodbraid Elf more quickly (something I do not want).
This list is not completely tuned yet, and I am certainly primed for receiving suggestions and input on what should be included/excluded and why I chose some of the cards I chose. Below are some notes on some glaring inclusions/exclusions:
Why no Tarmogoyfs?
One, I do not own any, but I could work towards buying them if that was necessary. Two, I see this deck as less T1 Thoughtseize into T2 pressure, but more of a set up engine, grind opponent into dust deck.
If you aren't planning to pressure in the early turns, why 4 Thoughtseize?
Because Thoughtseize is a 1 mana counter target Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Speaking of which...
Why aren't you running Jace, the Mind Sculptor?
Don't own them, otherwise I'd probably run 2-3.
How do you plan on dealing with aggro match-ups?
I only own 1 Damnation at the moment (would like 2 in the 75). Otherwise, my targeted removal, Snapcaster as Ambush Viper, and Cryptic taps have to do until I establish the lock.
Why Lumbering Falls over Creeping Tar Pit?
Wanting to test it out mostly because of the hexproof. Prevents it from being killed easily from hand. More concerned about a Jace player killing me from hand than I am about them having something on board that blocks a creature (though this line of thinking may be incorrect).
No Serum Visions?
I'm intending to use Thought Scour as my card engine at the moment (in addition to the 2 Search for Azcanta). I'm a huge fan of Grixis Control and have learned to love Thought Scour because of that deck. Scours fills up our yard for E-Wit, Snapcaster Mage, and Search for Azcanta while also giving us stuff to delve away for Logic Knot and Tasigur, the Golden Fang.
