What about some dark rituals? Would they help?

Sure, I'm still thinking about easier ways to get the Mana ramp this deck needs in the beginning.

Dark rituals only help you once, whereas Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx gives you the devotion ramp every turn

But if you have no creatures out it just gives you 1 colourless? I'm all for it though going to build one myself, thought of putting prototype portal in just for backup maybe.

You're absolutely right, but I think the ramp a few turns later is worth the relatively slow start.

Prototype portal seems alright, I think I will look into that.
