I generally dislikes deck made around the idea of casting spells on your creatures because it's a bit unreliable, but as a guy who mostly plays kitchen table with friends I like creating as many type of decks as possible, and I LOVE phalanx Leader
I was thinking about the possible upgrades yesterday. What if you put some rebound spells and bestow creatures? Like, Artful Maneuver, Distortion Strike or Center Soul will let you create more triggers with the same number of cards and will help keeping your creatures on the table, while a set of either Eidolon of Countless Battles, Nyxborn Shieldmate or Hopeful Eidolon will let you choose whether you need a spell or creature right now. Plus, when your enchanted creature dies, you are still left with bestow creature on the table. Adding one or two Immortal servitude or return to the ranks will help bringing the creatures back in case of mass destro.
Maybe this will help?
Thank you very much for such a insightful answer! I will try to touch on each card you mentioned.
Yes, it's unreliable but my playgroup and I only play kitchentable modern so therefore, we don't play many "expensive" dual lands.
And big yes,
Phalanx Leader is awesome! He, as well as Battlefield Thraumaturge were one the first cards i've ever had and they were the reason I've built this whole deck.
I decided to add
Artful Maneuver in terms of
rebound because I feel like my opponent could have something big in the first few turns while I'm setting up my creatures.
About the bestow creatures, I feel like they will slow down the deck since their cost are higher compared to the Instant and Sorceries I added, which can be (hopefully) cast for less due to
Battlefield Thaumaturge. I also want to have each creature to have heroic in order to have maximal value if I cast a spell that targets multiple targets.
Instead of
Judge's Familiar, I decided to put
Essence Capture in it, since it's a targeting ability.
Thank you for your decklist but as mentioned above, I want to play Thaumaturge as well since they were my starter cards (it's like keeping your starter pokemon always in your team
. That's why I added spells that work really well with Thamturge and other creatures.
Thank you again for your input. It made a huge impact for me how to design a deck and handle it's weaknesses.
