Deck Reviews / Re: [Modern] Eldrazi Sliver deck
« en: Septiembre 04, 2016, 12:11:15 am »
Thank you for your response!

Yeah i'm kind of new to MTG, so i'm not that familiar with the current meta. I just browse cards and occasionally come up with ideas for decks and this one seemed like a fun one to try balance into something legitimate.

I reckon adding some removal is a good shout to keep things in my favour. I'll definitely try squeeze some into the deck without messing with the current synergy too much. Another thing i'm worried about is the deck losing steam and not drawing enough cards (hence why I added Infiltration Lens). Do you think this is an addition worth keeping in.. or would removal be better?

Those are good suggestions for Eldrazi.. especially Blight Herder for the tokens. I can hopefully work him into the deck and perhaps add more shred memory or Eldrazi cards with ingest effects for exile options.

Red and black Eldrazi Sliver deck

Main focus of the deck is low cost strong Eldrazi cards equipped with 'Ghostfire Blade' and then to further bolster them with Sliver creatures with the help of 'Hivestone'. With Hivestone the Eldrazi creatures can get additional effects like lifesteal/first strike and + to power/toughness from the sliver creatures in the deck. Adaptive Automaton is thrown in if you're drawing too many of one creature type and don't have a Hivestone yet, but preferably you want to have hivestone and make Adaptive Automation a sliver to boost both creature types. He is also colorless so can wield 'Ghostfire Blade'.

Problems that I forsee are not being able to draw a Hivestone, or the opposite, drawing too many Hivestone's and It becomes a dead card. To help to draw one I've added 'Shred memory' for it's transmute effect although this is quite mana heavy. It also synergises with Wasteland Strangler (might add more of him in the deck but will see).

Other problems would be lack of defence and lack of burn/kill spells to control board more. Also not being able to draw a 'Ghostfire Blade'.

Any advice on how to improve the deck and/or reduce it's weaknesses would be much appreacited.

Thanks

Thanks for clarifying Robort. I thought that this would be the case. Back to the drawing board 😂.

General Magic / Mono blue illusion deck idea query

I'm trying to build a mono blue deck. Mainly around illusion creatures. One creature I was interested in is Renegade Doppelganger.

It's oracle reads "Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, you may have Renegade Doppelganger become a copy of that creature until end of turn"

This is a nice effect, but you may not get consistency in summoning a strong creature you can copy and attack with each turn. I thought I may be able to achieve this consistency with the enchantment spell: Halcyon Glaze.

It's oracle reads "Whenever you cast a creature spell, Halcyon Glaze becomes a 4/4 Illusion creature with flying in addition to its other types until end of turn."

I got excited about this, because I thought any time I cast a creature spell (including Renegade Doppelganger), Halcyon Glaze would become a 4/4 Creature with flying, and any existing Renegade Doppelganger's and/or a newly summoned Renegade Doppelganger could become copies of the 4/4 Flying illusion creature, therefore giving the possibility of quite a damaging assault on your opponent. These creatures could even be buffed with Lord of the Unreal, or Paragon of Gathering Mists, for extra damage. I was also thinking of including Phantasmal Image whom could become a copy of an existing Renegade Doppelganger so the 4/4 flying illusion creatures would keep amassing if the board was controlled well enough. I had the idea of protecting the Doppelganger's with Eel Umbra, as well as having a few low cost defenders and unsummon cards to keep the battlefield's control in your favour.

Now, this would all be fine and dandy if I wasn't questioning whether Renegade Doppelganger could actually become a copy of a Halcyon Glaze in the first place. The problem is Renegade Doppelganger's oracle reads "Whenever another creature ENTERS THE BATTLEFIELD...".

- The argument against Renegade Doppelganger being able to become a copy Halcyon Glaze when it's ability triggers and becomes a creature is that it hasn't actually entered the battlefield (the enchantment spell entered the battlefield on a previous turn and is not re-entering the battlefield when its ability triggers and becomes a creature).

- The argument for would be that Halcyon Glaze is an enchantment spell, but when it triggers Halcyon Glaze becomes a creature type and enters the battlefield as a creature.

I'm probably actually 60/40 in favour of against being the correct ruling, but I might be wrong and maybe someone with deeper knowledge than myself could clear this up.

Aside from this question, I have a question about Phantasmal Image regarding Halcyon Glaze as well. Say you summon a cheap creature spell at the start of your turn and Halcyon Glaze becomes the 4/4 illusion creature with flying as stated In it's oracle. You attack with Halcyon Glaze and go to your second main step after combat. You have 2 untapped lands left and summon Phantasmal image. Could he copy the Halcyon Glaze creature, but without the "until end of turn" part taking effect, therefore having a permanent 4/4 creature with flying on the battlefield? Or would he copy that part of the oracle and goto the graveyard at the end of the turn? I really don't know.

Any other help with ideas on improving upon this deck would be welcome. Maybe you know a better option than Halcyon Glaze in triggering consistency with Renegade Doppelganger's effect.

Thanks

General Magic / Re: Goblin Creature steal deck help

Hi KouriNick,

Really appreciate your response, and great ideas presented here.

You've made a few card suggestions that I didn't know or think about that would definitely benefit the deck. Traitorous Blood definitely beats Threaten and Act of Treason because of the trample effect, so that is a no brainer. I'm just in love with Threaten's art work because it's a goblin deck, but I'll get over it!

Clickslither looks like a very good card in this deck. I didn't know about it, but it would be of great use here. Zealous Conscripts looks like a good card too for, as you said, the fact it can steal any permanent and not just a creature. Definitely will help against an annoying enchantment halting my offense.

Yeah, I didn't think it would work because of the wording on Ogre Battledriver, but thought I should get a definitive answer. A shame the effect doesn't trigger, but there's definitely some better suggestions here from you.

Thanks

General Magic / Goblin Creature steal deck help
« en: Julio 28, 2016, 03:03:41 pm »
Hi, I'm working on a mono red goblin deck with creature steal that focuses on using Bazaar Trader to gain permanent control of the opponents creatures after using Threaten and Mark of Mutiny.

Here is the current iteration of the deck: http://deckstats.net/decks/68444/536090-goblin-creature-steal/en

I am thinking about swapping some new creatures in, most notably Ogre Battledriver. I was curious if his effect "Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, that creature gets +2/+0 and gains haste until end of turn."

Now, when you use one of the creature steal cards and have Ogre Battledriver on the field, would that stolen creature receive the +2/+0 benefit, or because it's already entered the battlefield, would the effect not trigger?

Any other suggestions or ideas on helping the deck are welcome. Other creatures I'm considering putting in are Goblin Diplomats, Zada's Commando, Jeering Instigator, Mogg Sentry and Tuktuk the Explorer.

Thanks
