Deckstats Feedback / Re: Karma
« il: Maggio 12, 2016, 06:48:16 pm »
I thought the Karma was supposed to be an incentive for everyone to be more polite to one another and to give credence to members' posts. I typically feel more confident with advice from members with higher Karma. I have never down voted anyone, but I would if they were to post something that was outright insulting or mean to me or someone else. I would love to be able to give feedback.

Deckstats Feedback / Re: Card Database

Will there be a way to add Blessed vs. Cursed duel decks into the collection? I love the card database, so far everything has worked properly for me and I like being able to see my card collections and pricing! Thanks!

Deck Reviews / Vampire or Werewolf deck?

So I'm building decks with cards I already own, but I would like to work on them over time to make them more competitive. I'm not sure which deck is off to a better start so please tell me which one you see the most potential in (if you see potential in neither tell me)! I would really appreciate some guidance on what cards and how many I should play keeping in mind that I don't intend on spending a whole lot of money all at once, I plan to purchase cards with my Magic budget  ;). Also side boarding suggestions or obvious holes in my deck strategies. Please and thanks!

Sometimes on a werewolf deck I find that consistency with the flippy dippy transformation stuff can be tricky.  A few copies of Wolf of Devil's Breach and Howlpack Wolf or  Timberpack Wolf can add some stable creatures and pair well with other spells mentioned before like Titanic Growth or Howlpack Resurgence.

This is great! I almost spit my coffee on my work computer (probably why I shouldn't be on this site at work lol). I could probably get a small loan of one million dollars from my father to purchase this deck and you best believe that my hands are big enough to play it. I think that Mass Calcify and Mnemonic Wall are great suggestions.

General Magic / Goldknight Castigator... Advice Anyone?
« il: Maggio 04, 2016, 04:40:37 pm »
So at the Shadows over Innistrad sealed event I got Goldknight Castigator. While her artwork is really cool and she is a good 4/9 flyer, her abilities (dealing double damage to you and her) are really difficult to deal with and I'm not sure how to play her card effectively. Anyone have any advice or combos that work well? Or just general thoughts on it; is it a good card to keep and play or should I trade it?

It's really cool to see how you guys all stay nerdy and stay within budget.  ;) I'm saving all of these tips so I can adult and college and game.
I tried playing pauper with friends and I really enjoy it, plus it gives me something to do with all the hand-me-down cards that people have been giving me at FNM and that's really fun for kitchen table playing. I played a sealed event when I first started playing (so Shadows over Innistrad pre-release) and it was AWESOME. I won more matches than I usually do and walked out with some pretty sweet cards all for under $15.
Since then I have also branched out and started playing at a different shop that has a much smaller turnout which has upped my chances of winning. I now realize how much more competitive my previous shop was; people spent a lot more time and money at the first shop I was going to. I raided the ten cent standard card bin at the new shop to add some stuff to my deck and that cost me less than $5 for a lot of cards that I can use.

So trading is something I haven't really done either. How do I know the value of my trade? I know I can look up the actual value of cards but how do you guys assess when you're getting a good trade?

Thanks for the sound advice! During summer I take fewer classes and I usually pick up a part time job so I'll be able to put a little more toward deck building soon. I think I'll use that time to build a couple decent decks that I like so that when school and work kick back into overdrive I can back off of the spending and still be able to play.

Deck Comments / Re: Happy Earth Day Mono Green - Comments

Those are great ideas if I were going to play this deck. 😊 I actually just whipped this up on Earth Day to have a little fun, so the cards have no real purpose strategically. I personally like a more diverse deck usually and green is not my typical play style.

I do, however, think that with some adjustments like the ones you suggested it could be a pretty good deck. And definitely less lands lol

Thank you!

I have only ever purchased a few packs, but I realized pretty quickly that I was just going to end up with a bunch of cards I didn't want or need. Treating Magic as a bill is a good idea too, that's what I did this month and it worked out pretty well. I went with $60 a month which is about $15 a week for cards, tournament entries, and whatever else. Since I bought a $14 card yesterday I didn't pay to play in the actual tournament but rather just played for free with other people at the shop which was just as fun. I can always save up for a period of time for bigger purchases.

General Magic / How do you pay for MTG? Budget Tips
« il: Aprile 23, 2016, 11:10:45 pm »
Hey everyone!

I'm a college student in my mid twenties in my last year of my Bachelor's degree in Art History. I work full time as the supervisor for an anatomy laboratory and pay for life, school, and my hobbies. I'm fairly new to this particular hobby, and I really want to get into it, but I'm also a serious financial planner. I play standard at my Friday night Magic group and I can tell that people sink lots of money into their decks. Also there are things like sleeves, mats, and accessories as well as tournament fees and new cards that will constantly need to be bought as they rotate in and out.

Does anyone have any budget tips or ways that they get MTG to "pay for itself" or ways to save/budget for Magic? How do you guys work Magic into your financial lives?

Thanks!

Deck Reviews / Re: [Standard] R/B Standard Vampire
« il: Aprile 22, 2016, 04:18:14 pm »

I'm fairly new at this game (but I'm no stranger to strategy games) and as a rookie I've been beaten pretty good in the two tournaments I've entered. So I can't offer experience but I built a red/black vampire deck yesterday that you may want to look at if you would just like to get ideas.

https://deckstats.net/decks/63728/475179-skeri-s-vampires

The idea on this deck was to have many creatures out, cheap instant options, and synergy and perform as a fairly cheap deck (both mana cost and out of pocket for cards) with a red/madness based sideboard to push speed if you need it.
