This is a concept deck I just put together here, I have not built of played it yet.

I totally agree with you about the basic's.  I was chatting with my buddy about these very same facts.  I have a feeling this deck is going to end up being far too slow and clunky, especially once my playgroup see's it's potential and just decides to wipe me before I have a board. 

As for the shrines, the thought here is that I'll have some other things on my board that will look like much bigger threats, while my shrines end up grinding them all to death.  That's the theory anyway, they will be so focused on Ramos doing his thing, they will kind of leave the shrines alone.

I ordered all the cards today, I'm excited to get this up and running and see how it goes.  I'm sure there will be PLENTY of tweaks.

First time making an Orzhov EDH deck.  I feel like I'm trying to do too much with it, but liked the idea of lifegain to do direct damage, blinking permanents, and generating tokens. 

Here's my first draft.

3) Which cards are a total waste of space in this deck

Not necessarily trying to make this a "competitive" deck, mostly my playgroup is cEDH but we are getting better.

You're welcome.  It's a solid deck so I figured you were actually experienced. 

Some examples of cards I might like in this deck it were mine:

Ramp:
Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, Skyshroud Claim, Explosive Vegetation. Pick 2-5 of your favorite and ramp up!  I would FOR SURE include Perilous Forays!  It would synergize GREAT with Luminous Broodmoth, and it also just ramps for you if you don't have the Moth out yet.  Trade a dog or cat token for a land, to cast more stuff on future turns, YES PLEASE. 

Color Fixing: 
Not sure if you just didn't get to it yet, but your lands don't seem fleshed out.  In a 3 color EDH, you are running a high risk in your initial version of not having all 3 colors of mana available, which means not casting your commander, and that is baaad.  So you need lots of cards that help you 'fix' your colors.  In a vast majority of multi-colored EDH decks, you'll see Command Tower, Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, the "Thriving" lands from the jumpstart set, Guildgates, and the 2 mana producing guild lands (a la Selesnya Sanctuary).  There are also all the color fixing lands like Wooded Bastion and Fire-Lit Thicket.
In addition to fixing your color base (or possibly, instead of), I would suggest a Chromatic Lantern and a Dryad of the Ilysian Grove if you want to keep with mostly basic lands for the price point.  2 $10 cards that will make all your basic lands be super lands, opposed to a bunch of $3-$15 land cards...

Get most out of those tokens you make:
Depending on price point you want, there are some great cards in these colors to truly get disgusting with your tokens.  Doubling Season, Anointed Procession, Parallel Lives are sick.  At the very least, I would put a Second Harvest in as it's $1, even if it's only single use.  That one use played wisely can win the game for you.  Higher CMC and not at Instant speed, there is also Parallel Evolution, which has a buyback option. Also, back on the high end, a good old fashioned "Green Stompy" Craterhoof Behemoth is a drop and win card. 

Protect Yourself:
If your committed to using all those Ajani PWs, I would include several fog cards for when your creatures get wiped or you aren't drawing well and/or can't stop flyers.  Fog, Constant Mists, Veil of Summer and the like.  Maze of Ith is nice that you have, could also incude Thaumatic Compass, Labyrinth of Skuphos for same effects.  As for protecting Rin & Seri, a lot of decks that really "need" their commanders to truly stay in play would include Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, and Mirror Shield.  Commanders Plate is less viable in a 3 color deck, but protection from Black and Blue is still pretty darn nice!

I like the start, especially your enchantments.

A couple initial thoughts from me....

1. Why so many lands? I don't see a lot of landfall trigger, 38-40 seems like PLENTY.  That gets you 11-13 more spells in your deck.  I especially don't get Glacial Chasm in the deck, I mean obviously you have life gain to pay the cost, but I'm not seeing the benefit outweigh your cost.  Once you have enough pups and kittys on the field, you want to attack and overwhelm

2. If the goal is to kill opponents with Rin + Seri, I would put in more stuff to keep them on the field.  Hammer, Greaves, and Flawless Maneuver are great, I would add more protection / hexproof

3. It seems like you are really into Ajani.  If that's your jam, roll with it, otherwise I would think there are other spells you could use in those slots. 

4. I might not be seeing it, but you have a few cards that are really good if you are casting multiple creatures per turn.  You only have 26 creatures in the deck, not a ton of ramp / huge mana producers, and the creatures you have aren't especially low CMC.  I don't see you casting a lot of creature spells per turn.  This makes cards like Anger and Beast Whisperer odd to me. 

5. Obviously flyers are going to be a problem for you to handle.  I love Luminous Broodmoth in here.  Maybe some of the cards you add to replace lands have some sacriface engines, so you can kill your own creatures to bring them back as fliers.  Could also stand to add some other flying protection to keep you in the game against dedicated flyer decks.  Bow of Nylea might be nice here. 

I like the deck.  If it was me, I would get closer to 38 lands, closer to 40 Dogs and Cats, and maybe add some traditional green ramp sorceries if you are worried about your mana base.  Instead of drawing lands to play, ramp them onto the board early and clear out your draws for creatures and spells that will help you win.

If using the same commander twice really is prohibited, you'll have to change the rules anyway. So why not doing it like this?


The rules would not have to be changed with 2 Prismatic Pipers, just the player would only be able to cast out 1 at a time (without needing to sacrifice one of them).  The two Pipers are still tracked separately in terms of commander tax, commander damage, or any other effect that would matter.  I would imagine in this format there are going to be LOTS of games where a Piper is never even cast from the Command Zone.  You are just using them to unlock the color combos. 

Depending on the color combos you drew, a second piper could be useful for a forced Sacrifice (death effects, escape abilities, etb effects).    I don't see why anyone would need 2 unique Pipers cast at the same time...
