I think some of your cards are working at cross-purposes with the control plan. Bloodwater Entity isn't really a control card. Neither is Lannery, even if she fits your Treasure plan.

Actually, I think there's an argument for going totally creatureless here. You don't need damage to win, and it would give your more room for removal and counterspells.

Pretty sure Ach Hans Run isn't meant to be here.

I'm agnostic on Whisperer. It doesn't seem great, but it also doesn't seem bad.

I'm a newbie, so what would you qualify as enablers? Thanks for the suggestions!

Anything with power 4 or greater. So as to, well, enable ferocious.

And you're welcome.

6
I'd cut Hour of Need, if I were you. It's rarely good to spend two cards just to get a 4/4 flier, and it's really bad as removal.

If you want to change more than that, it might be worth playing more Ferocious enablers. You don't have that many. To make room you could probably cut some of the more situational payoffs, like Feed the Clan and Winds of Qal Sisma. They have the potential to be great, but they also have the potential to be blank cardboard.

Force Away might also be worth dropping. It's just generally low-impact.

The maybeboard cards that most appeal to me are Stubborn Denial and Ashcloud Phoenix.

7
If I were you I would ditch the aggro-ish cards. Ramroller, Hewed-Stone Retainers, Stoneforge Masterwork, Ghostfire Blade...these cards don't add much when your plan is to win with something huge.

What's the point of getting in 8 damage early when you're leading up into Kozilek?

To replace them, I'd add Mind Stone and some more Hedron Archives.

Might also be worth looking into a fancier land base. One of the best decks in Modern, and a fringe deck in legacy, work on the colourless Eldrazi ramp plan.

http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=15829&d=297150&f=LE

Chances are you don't want to get too close to those decks, because demolishing a casual table one-sidedly is no fun. But they're good for inspiration.

I liked your tips, but I'm not very familiar with these mechanics, you can tell me good cards synergistically with the deck theme, I'll make another version of that deck a little heavier and more consistent.

You can see Dredge here. Often dredge decks never intend to cast their Dredge spells, so they just play the ones with the biggest Dredge numbers.

For discard and self-mill, you can get better options by looking beyond black. Voyaging Satyr, Cathartic Reunion, Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, Faithless Looting, and Grisly Salvage come to mind. Not sure what your best monoblack options are...I guess you could try Dark Deal, Haunted Dead, Call the Bloodline, Crow of Dark Tidings, and/or Bitter Revelation.

18 lands probably isn't enough.

That aside, I think you need more ways to stock your graveyard. Discard outlets, self-mill, Dredge, that kind of thing. As-is, you'll have trouble getting enough bodies into the grave.

I'm not sold on the Haunted Crossroads or the Pit Keeper: they seem counterproductive since you want a full graveyard.

Wight of Precinct Six only counts opposing graveyards, which makes it a lot less useful.

PS: I'm not sure if a Spirit-based version using Iname, Death Aspect would be any good, but it might be worth a shot.

One small tip about posting to a forum like this one: sort your deck. It makes it much easier to read, and it hardly takes any time at all. I did it here, just to get a better look at your deck.

//Lands

1 Blighted Woodland
2 Crumbling Vestige
2 Mirrorpool
1 Ancient Tomb
1 Fertile Thicket
1 Eldrazi Temple
1 Holdout Settlement
1 Unknown Shores
4 Wastes
10 Forest

//Creatures

4 Blisterpod
2 Lifespring Druid
1 Undergrowth Champion
4 Eyeless Watcher
4 Warden of Geometries
2 Kozilek's Channeler
1 Oblivion Sower
2 Brood Monitor
1 Bane of Bala Ged
1 Ulamog's Crusher
1 Artisan of Kozilek
1 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
1 Desolation Twin

//Other spells

3 Swell of Growth
1 Cryptolith Rite
3 Warping Wail
1 Natural Connection
2 Hedron Archive
1 Zendikar Resurgent

Anyway, the deck looks decent. The only card choice I dislike is Swell of Growth. You don't really need the +2/+2 very badly, and extra land drops are a poor subsitute for actual mana sources.

If and when you start buying singles, you'll find it easy to upgrade the deck massively. There are plenty of quick and easy substitutions that could really improve the deck, like Elvish Mystic for Lifespring Druid, Rampant Growth for Natural Connection, Rogue's Passage for Holdout Settlement, Sea Gate Wreckage for Unknown Shores, and so on.

Oh, and one other thing. A few more Forests might be useful. Being pinched on green early is pretty bad; much worse than being pinched on colourless.

17 lands is really not enough. You're gonna get manascrewed constantly. Not sure what you mean about repeat tricks; if I were you I'd be very worried about the colour issues. And about keeping Thran Quarry and Glimmervoid on the battlefield.

Anyway, I think you need more answers. As-is, this deck can't do much to stop the opponent from executing their gameplan.

Also, Aetherworks Marvel seems very dubious in a deck with no other energy generation.

Deck Reviews / Re: [Legacy] My first
« il: Maggio 21, 2017, 07:09:33 am »
Probably better to call this Casual, rather than Legacy.

Anyway, the deck looks a bit unfocused. Seems to be some kind of lifegain theme, but you don't have many cards that reward you for gaining life. And there seems to be some kind of Ally theme, but you don't have many cards that reward you for having Allies.

What central theme do you want to focus on here? If you pick one and commit to it, you'll have a better deck.

And as always, playing 4 copies of a good card is better than playing 2 copies of that good card and 2 copies of an inferior imitator. Exactly which cards you consider good depends on the deck type you settle on, but regardless you won't regret replacing Forsaken Sanctuary and Orzhov Guildgate with more Scoured Barrens.

PS: Golden Urn and Throne of Bone just aren't very good.

Unfortunately, the rise of monoblack Zombies in Standard has spiked some prices. 50 bucks would've gone further two weeks ago.

Still, Diregraf Captain and Compelling Deterrence are dirt cheap. And 50 bucks is actually quite a decent budget for casual.

Here's a sketch of what a $50 upgrade might look like. Going by mtggoldfish for the prices.

//Lands

4 Dismal Backwater
11 Swamp
9 Island

//Creatures

4 Cryptbreaker
4 Gravecrawler
3 Miasmic Mummy
4 Prized Amalgam
2 Diregraf Colossus
4 Diregraf Captain
1 Gisa and Geralf
1 Advanced Stitchwing
1 Noosegraf Mob

//Other spells

1 Graf Harvest
4 Compelling Deterrence
1 Cemetery Recruitment
2 Rise from the Grave
4 Dark Salvation

Obviously this is untested and my preferences might not agree with yours. But I think it should do a pretty decent job of flooding the board. And I tried to accommodate Rise from the Grave too.

You want to put Prized Amalgam and Gravecrawler in the graveyard with your various discard outlets. Pitching the Noosegraf Mob can be good too, if you need a target for Rise from the Grave. Prized Amalgam can be recurred with Gravecrawler, Rise from the Grave, Advanced Stitchwing, and Gisa and Geralf.

Ideal opener is Cryptbreaker T1, discard Gravecrawler to make a Zombie T2, discard Prized Amalgam to make a Zombie, play Gravecrawler, recur Prized Amalgam T3.

Even without combos, playing exactly 60 cards is good because it makes your deck more consistent. Adding cards beyond the first 60 reduces your chances of drawing your key cards, and adds the possibility of drawing marginal cards instead.

Anyway, I just realized I forgot a few cards that deserved a recommendation: Compelling Deterrence, Liliana's Mastery, Thought Scour or Mental Note, and Gisa and Geralf. Also, Shambling Goblin has been rendered obsolete by Festering Mummy.

There are a couple of critical decisions you need to make before going forward.

First, what's your budget?

Second, what basic strategy do you want your deck to employ? The traditional Zombie deck is a moderately fast synergistic aggro deck that excels at bringing dead creatures back for another go, but by playing cards like Sire of Stagnation you show interest in a slower, less synergistic deck that wins through enormously impactful single cards.

Regardless, it'll help to sort your deck a bit better. Here's a type/cost sorting:

//Lands

2 Submerged Boneyard
12 Swamp
11 Island

//Creatures

2 Cryptbreaker
1 Returned Phalanx
1 Miasmic Mummy
2 Stitched Mangler
1 Unbreathing Horde
1 Voracious Null
2 Liliana's Elite
2 Diregraf Colossus
1 Gavony Unhallowed
1 Hound of the Farbogs
1 Lamplighter of Selhoff
2 Advanced Stitchwing
1 Noosegraf Mob
1 Sire of Stagnation

//Other spells

2 Graf Harvest
2 Spontaneous Mutation
2 Cemetery Recruitment
1 Unsubstantiate
2 Murder
3 Rise from the Grave
2 Grave Betrayal
2 Dark Salvation

As for adding more cards, you're really spoiled for choice. Obviously I've suggested more cards than you can ever use, so it's up to you which to play. Regardless of which path you take, I suggest dropping expensive low-impact cards like the Lamplighter of Selhoff.

There aren't many hard-and-fast rules about how many of each card to play. But there's a good column on the official site that can provide some guidance, on this topic and on others. Here's the archive: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/117690 (The articles about card-counts are Four of a Kind, Three's Company, Take Two, and One for All.)

PS: When it comes to lands, you can do better than Submerged Boneyard. Also, 25 lands will be too much if you end up going the fast aggro route.

If I were you, I'd cut Rise from the Tides (not enough instants and sorceries), Contingency Plan (card disadvantage), Fogwalker (mediocre and not a Zombie), Eternal Thirst (card disadvantage), and Feast on the Fallen (just seems kinda meh).

That aside...in general, you'll be better off with more copies of your best cards and fewer different cards. Four Cryptbreakers is much better than two Cryptbreakers, a Returned Phalanx, and a Seagraf Skaab.

You're really spoiled for choice when it comes to good Zombie cards. I recommended a bunch to another player a while back, so I'll just link you. You can add Lord of the Accursed, Prized Amalgam, Diregraf Captain, Plague Belcher, and Dread Wanderer to that list; they were left off either for being blue or for being printed after I wrote that post.
