$100 budget Arixmethes deck with a mythical creature theme.
Typical set-up: t2 ramp-->t4 7 mana available, then you drop fatties (some with removal/evasion attached) and boardclears, control game with counterspells and removal until you use X-draw spells/Wild Pair/Fierce Empath/Woodland Bellower to dig for a wincon.
Alot of the ramp in the deck focuses on sol lands (lands that tap for 2+) and land untappers to get ahead quickly.
The deck is also designed to play alot at instant speed, giving you many options depending on what opponents play (i.e. plays like rewind-->net mana with sol lands out-->stroke of genius/dominate)
Included etb + bounce subtheme for value and to remove counters on Arix.
Tips:
Shrieking drake can be played and bounced as many times as you need to awaken Arixmethes, also 1 mana to replay an etb creature is not bad either. With Tidespout Tyrant out, it reads “U, return target permanent to its owner’s hand.”
Every creature in the deck has a twin for Wild Pair. With 1/1s, you pull shrieking drake + cloud of faeries to essentially pull all of the 1/1s from the deck for free.
Woodland Bellower is a swiss army knife in this deck, can pull ramp (sakura tribe elder, coiling oracle), land untaps (voyaging satyr, kiora’s follower), removal (reclamation sage), recursion (skullwinder) and tutor (fierce empath), as well as being a nice beatstick for the cost.
Any card that has the text “untap X lands” serves double duty as a ritual spell with Arix/sol lands out. Pay attention to how you sequence your mana to get maximum advantage out of this manabase (ex. 6 lands that tap for 8 total. Use the 2 sol lands + basic tapping for 5 and play five drop. This leaves you with 3 mana. Play unwind on opponent’s turn, untapping the sol lands and basic. Now you have 5 mana open to use at instant speed until your next turn. This sequence avoids losing floating mana.)
Win Cons:
Infinite mana + storm set ups:
1.Skullwinder/Greenwarden of Murasa + Cloud of Faeries/Peregrine Drake/Great Whale + 2/3 lands that tap for 4 total + Displace/Ghostly Flicker
-graveyard recursion creature + land untap creature on board-->play flicker effect for 3 mana targetting both-->lands untap + return flicker effect to hand-->repeat gaining 1+ mana each time.
2.Tidespout Tyrant + Cloud of Faeries/Peregrine Drake/Great Whale + Lands that generate extra mana + cheap permanent
-tidespout + sol lands on board-->play land untap etb creature gaining enough mana to replay it + n extra mana-->play permanent that costs n-1 mana, bounce land untapper with tyrant-->play untap creature again and repeat gaining n+ mana each time.
-for the cheap permanent, something like wild growth/rampant growth/kiora, behemoth beckoner work since they all effectively cost 1 with land untappers etb and sol lands allowing you to alternate bounces while netting mana and generating infinite storm. If shrieking drake is the cheap permanent, you can bounce your opponents’ entire boards to their hand, effectively winning there.
Exclusions:
Eternal Witness: skullwinder is more flavorful and political which I like
Pemmin's aura/freed/Deadeye navigator: not include because budget and they make infinite mana too easy with all the land untappers in the deck
Karoo's: too slow and clunky
Ancient Tomb: because of budget, as well as the fact that there is no lifegain in this deck and it is not a fast combo, would deal too much self damage with all the untappers
Palinchron: perfect fit for the deck (untaps, ramps, pulls counters off arix, could combo with tidespout tyrant) but unfrotunatly the cost is exploding :(
Remove Great whale and Soldevi excavations to lower the cost by ~$20
