Deck # 13: The War on Christmas (EDH / Commander)

Pharika tells her servant, Dr. Kylie Moriarty, that allowing her dear friend Silumgar, the Drifting Death, to be unsupervised has created a bit of a problem back on Planet Earth. Basically, Silumgar is going on a rampage and if Dr. Moriarty doesn't get home right now, he'll destroy things.

Kylie quickly returns home, and she discovered the sad remains of what was supposed to be Silumgar's birthday party. All the dragons were invited, and everything was set.
But nobody showed up. Poor Silumgar was left all on his own, with no friends at all. The only creature who even stayed near, being part of Dr. Moriarty's hexproof air defense anyway, was a Sphinx of the Final Word. He silenced Silumgar, but he didn't stop Silumgar's pity party. Some days, you just need dragon friends.

Turning to her tarot cards, Dr. Moriarty discovered that there was indeed a big party. It supplanted Silumgar's birthday, and he was not even invited. After talking to some people, she discovered that the party was a premature Christmas party hosted by someone who didn't like Halloween. And he made the party so big and elaborate that everyone came. Including Tiamat, which brought all the dragons to his party. Tiamat had come under a flag of truce, promising to be nice and harm no one until the holiday was over.
Then she discovered the host had no intention of ending his artificial Christmas holiday. That set Tiamat on a rampage.

 Explaining all this to Silumgar, he decided that if anyone was going to have a party and eat the guests, it was going to be him.  Though she wanted this to be a fight exclusively among dragons, chiefly because she did not want to have to heal a whole bunch of people yet again, Dr. Moriarty relented.  But she subjected him to Artificial Evolution first, and then gave him a real Christmas idea:  Angels instead of dragons.  Replace his lost dragon army with angels.

 Together with the gods, Dr. Moriarty and Silumgar formed a little conspiracy among friends.  Well, technically, it was an Arcane Adaptation that relied on the Drogskol Captain.

To keep things from getting out of control, Dr. Moriarty gives Silumgar her birthday present to him: A Revel in Riches he can't wait to use.

The war is on to save Christmas (the real one) and Halloween by attacking Christmas (the fake one) and sending Tiamat back to . . . well, Dr. Moriarty has decided to invite her to Halloween - if she can calm herself down. But the jerk who made this mess in the first place? He's all Silumgar's . . .

What ultimately stopped Silumgar and focused him was Oketra the True. Having been told by the absent Pharika what was going on, Oketra appeared, providing a copy of Zur the Enchanter. Though Zur seized control, it's still really Silumgar who is in charge. Zur is only there to find Heliod, Thassa, and Athreos, and the Arcane Adaptation. He's only the commander because he's the only Epser commander I had.

Silumgar explains that he's been artificially evolved. Moving beyond dragons, he wants to work with angels now. Oketra agrees to Artificial Evolution herself, being as true to Silumgar as she is to everyone else. But then she goes further, providing a handful of angel copies, including Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Oketra also makes a copy of Liesa, Forgotten Archangel, an Angelic Accord, and a Parhelion II.

Athreos then decides to give Silumgar a birthday present of his own, a Mortal Combat. This excites Bontu, giving her something to do for a change. To protect whichever one of them is most important, Dr. Moriarty replicates a Leonin Abunas, a Liquimetal Coating, and a Saheeli's Artistry.

Now that the gods are involved, and the angels with them, the war will begin properly. Heliod, Avacyn, and the white cards are willing to betray Christmas, because they've learned that the Christmas they're fighting is a fake.

For the real Christmas! For the sake of the angels! For the glory of the gods! For poor Silumgar's birthday.

And for the Queen. I mourn her loss, though that seems to be what inspired me to add white to make a proper angel deck.
