Dr. Kylie Moriarty is just doing her normal thing back on her own private island in England, taking a brief vacation from her career as a teacher at a Simic campus. Her students think she's a Biovisionary, having shown them not just experienced medical secrets from England, her homeland, but a mastery of druidic magic and a wealth of experience in a vastly different situation she will not discuss. The healing methods she teaches her students are incredible, and she loves being a member of the Simic guild, gladly taking part in making mutants. She was happy to teach her students how to take her hexproof/shroud air force, and make mutants out of them.
The reason she and her students are on vacation is because two planeswalkers got into a fight with each other. They crashed into her classroom, and she had to use her own powerful magic to break up the fight and protect her students. Until this moment, she doesn't even know what a planeswalker is.
So she decides to study them. Firstly, she discovers that they have far too much power for non-druids to wield. (She is a druid). What is worse, she has discovered from her that the planeswalkers are causing even greater damage than the Americans, whom the British Kylie despises. For, being the scientist that she is, she studied the power planeswalkers have used in travelling between worlds, and the bi-product the powers left behind. Her results were nothing less than a catastrophic environmental threat to make terran climate change look like a cakewalk. The planeswalkers must be stripped of power before they bring ruin to the entire multiverse, and they don't even know what they're doing. Or is it that they don't care?
She goes on a quest to beseech the planeswalkers to stop planeswalking for the sake of the multi-verse, or else, painful as it must be, to destroy them. Preferably only to destroy their powers and let them live, but the multi-verse is at stake. Everything else must be secondary. On this quest, she is approached by Ephara, God of the Polis, and Kruphix, God of Horizons, who question her research but accepts Kylie's answers. The gods then permit Dr. Moriarty to clone her, and lets the clones remain with her.
During her quest, Kylie encounters Ajani Goldmane and Vivien Reid, who don't buy a word she says, but grant her request for a lock of hair. Knowing that planeswalkers can't be convinced they're distorting the worlds, she then leaves them be and goes home.
Returning to England, she's making mutants and clones out of spirits on her island, hoping she can use the spirits as an antidote to the distortion the planeswalkers are causing. To get a better grasp of how the planeswalkers work and how they do their damage, she uses the hair to clone Ajani and Vivien.
Upon her return to Ravnica to resume her teaching at the Simic campus, Kylie is attacked by a rather different planeswalker. He knew his enemy, Kylie, enough to watch her. He couldn't read her mind, but he could follow her home.
Though she forces the fight with the planeswalker to a draw, he kidnaps her. She is taken to another world, Amonkhet, but she escapes her captor. Kylie watches in horror at the horrible things happening during the terrible hours. And she gets a good look at the worst of the planeswalkers, Bolas himself.
On Amonkhet, she manages to pick up D&A from Oketra the True. She makes clones of Oketra, several of them, some of whom continue to fight or rally the people, while the original clone helps Kylie collect survivors without being noticed by Bolas or the planeswalkers. It is her clone of Vivien, having found her, that allows them to leave Amonkhet, bringing with them as many survivors as possible back to the safety of England. When Bolas discovers this and tries to stop her, Dr. Moriarty reflects his power back at him with Redirect, then flees to home to England, where she and her followers are safe and beyond his reach.
They are beyond his reach because Kylie isn't actually planeswalking. Her brother, Kelly, is a gatekeeper, which is the supernatural opposite of a planeswalker. He can allow, or forbid, entrance to a world if he is on it. This means he and his gatekeeper cult serve to protect Planet Earth from mystic threats. Kelly has given Kylie the power to travel between worlds, though gatekeeper traveling doesn't cause the distortion like planeswalking does. When she tells him what's going on, he is horrified. He wants to go to war, but she pleads with him until he relents, on the grounds that he's needed to shield Planet Earth.
Waiting for her back in England are a Felidar Sovereign and a Healer of the Pride, whom Kylie gladly uses as a nurse. Kylie, being a Simic doctor first and foremost, treats the Amonkhet survivors who came with her, while getting used to the idea of copies of Oketra and Kefnet as actual things. Kylie's private island is getting overfull of people due to the Amonkhet survivors who followed her. The clone of Kruphix gives Kylie a hair sample and demands she cultivate it, resulting in a clone of Karametra, God of Harvests. The Karametra clone immediately solves the space problem by creating a few new forests on the island. She then asks Kylie why she can't just create new lands for her so that the fight against planeswalkers is unnecessary. Unfortunately, no matter how newly expanded the land, the worlds are still subject to planeswalker distortion. Only cleaning the pollution up will truly help, not creating new plains and forests.
The Ephara clone creates a Kestia, the Cultivator clone, informing Dr. Moriarty that she wants to use the spirits to take on the planeswalker who kidnapped Kylie. The reason why is because he's one of the biggest polluters, and bringing him down would ease much of the problem. Kestia takes charge, flanked by Oketra and Kefnet, as clones of Avacyn, Angel of Hope and the Drogskol Captain lead the spirits into the first of many battles.
