My first ever paper Limited deck, as well as my first ever Two-Headed Giant deck, at my first ever Prerelease. My partner went Jeskai Spells & Detectives. We went 1-2--my partner got mana flooded in our opening loss, then mana screwed in our 28-20 draw/win due to time, then mana screwed again in our closing loss--as we generally felt our pulls were low power-level (particularly in the face of several 4 mana value Legendary Gold bombs).
I went into the event wanting to play Red plus whatever other color synergized the best out of my pulls, but my partner suggested Black-Green with a Blue splash as the best bet for our card pool--even after I said Blue was my first choice to rule out (based on mostly non-aggressive tempo spells), and Green second (based on bland creatures and a mild counters tactic).
I was more or less satisfied with how my deck played out--early game ramping, midgame Disguise, late game Doppelgang and/or Jetsam, with removal and Collect Evidence throughout, for a sort of Golgari Midrange feel with Blue wincon. I would take out Pick Your Poison, which didn't do anything for me when I was able to draw it, and the Disguise cards seemed too expensive to reap the payoff of in-game, so I would rethink that brew--if you are going to play a lot of face-down creatures in Green, Tunnel Tipster actually seems like a must-include, with early-game ramp for that expensive mechanic and itself getting taller each time you just spend the {3}. (Plus, my partner and I didn't know we could include the first of our promo cards in our decks, so I failed to take advantage of my Underground Mortuary.) On the other hand, Long Goodbye is a stellar card for Limited in this set. (Also, Topiary Panther is another fine example of the big creature w/ cycling optionality.)
All in all, I felt there was enough time afforded in the event, from the deckbuilding period--cutting down to 23 non-land cards was very difficult, and fundamentally shaped the deck, plus there was the sleeving part--to the Bo1 matches--particularly in a format as slow as 2HG, and in a set as slow as MKM--what with its long-term payoff mechanics of Collect Evidence and Disguise, notwithstanding the presence of White Weenies and Red-_____ Aggro. Especially considering that a Two-Headed Giant Prerelease is supposed to be a casual event for Magic players to bring a friend who may not be super into Magic, the 50 or so minutes per round moves way too quickly for any novice instructing.
