{R/B} Ilvermoggny ~ A Different Take On Moggwarts (Pauper)

I'm calling this version of the deck Ilvermoggny because it was originally called Moggwarts which is a parody of Hogwarts from Harry Potter and Ilvermorny is also in Harry Potter and is kind of like Hogwarts but it's different so it makes sense that Ilvermoggny is like Moggwarts but it's different.

Okay cool, now that that's out of the way, on to the important stuff.

At it's core, Ilvermoggny/Moggwarts is a Persist combo deck that focuses around the interaction with Putrid Goblin and First Day of Class to get infinite sacrifices, death triggers, enter the battlefield triggers, etc. You primarily use it with Skirk Prospector to get infinite red mana and then do infinite damage with Flamewave Invoker or another card of the same purpose, but this version of the deck provides a couple of other different ways to wrap up the combo.

Carrion Feeder ~ This card is another sacrifice outlet that can be played as early as Turn 1 and can reliably become a finisher. The only true downside to this card is that it is a zombie, so it cannot be tutored with Goblin Matron the same way that Skirk Propsector can, but in some ways it is more deterministic. Skirk Prospector can only make infinite mana within your combo turn, and needs some sort of spell or activated ability to serve as a payoff. Carrion Feeder is its own payoff with it having an infinitely large amount of power and toughness, and it can still stay around after your turn ends in order to give you a second chance past fizzling. It is also worth noting that First Day of Class gives any creatures that enter the battlefield this turn (after it resolved) Haste, so if you have an opening you can win on the spot with a surprise Carrion Feeder that didn't necessarily enter the battlefield on a previous turn.

Wedding Invitation ~ Two generic mana for an artifact that draws a card really isn't half bad, considering that the other two primary artifacts in this deck, Ichor Wellspring and Chromatic Star, tend to serve the same purpose of being parts of a draw engine. HOWEVER the major benefit of Wedding Invitation is its second clause. You can sacrifice it to give a target creature psuedo-unblockable (and lifelink if it's a vampire, but this part doesn't matter in the absolute slightest), so all of a sudden your 37/37 Carrion Feeder (that may or may not also have haste as a result of the combo) looks a lot scarier to your opponent and their three 1/1s. Worst case scenario, you can sacrifice Wedding Invitation to Deadly Dispute or Costly Plunder to draw two more cards without sacrificing a creature or artifact land.

Costly Plunder ~ Most versions of this deck run Faithless Looting, which has some benefits to being in the deck, but every time I drew a Faithless Looting I would always think to myself "man, I with this was a Deadly Dispute instead." Although Costly Plunder is an objectively worse version of Deadly Dispute, since it does not make a treasure token, that treasure token really isn't what makes or breaks the card. Otherwise, Costly Plunder and Deadly Dispute are the exact same card, that do the exact same thing, for the exact same cost, which makes Costly Plunder and honorary "copies 5, 6, and 7 of Deadly Dispute." Costly Plunder is also valuable because without either it or Deadly Dispute, then Ichor Wellspring is mostly a dead card that is a worse version of Wedding Invitation. You want as many opportunities to sacrifice Ichor Wellspring as possible, and if you're increasing your chances of drawing a card that lets you sacrifice the dead-on-field Ichor Wellspring to draw three more cards, all of a sudden Ichor Wellspring becomes more valuable. Remember, Ichor Wellspring relies on either Deadly Dispute or Costly Plunder, but those two cards do not rely on Ichor Wellspring, since this deck has plenty of other artifacts or creatures to sacrifice. Overall, Costly Plunder is just absolute value that feels unjustifiably overlooked.

Impact Tremors ~ This card is also overlooked in favor of Makeshift Munitions, which just feels like an unnecessarily complicated card for this deck. It is definitely infinite damage with Skirk Prospector, but Impact Tremors goes infinite just through the act of sacrificing and recurring the Putrid Goblin, meaning that it works with both Skirk Prospector and Carrion Feeder. You can also play an Impact Tremors early for value, since you can get the extra damage off just by playing a Goblin Matron as a tutor or a Skirk Prospector for future setup. Makeshift Munitions does have the added benefit of technically being able to target creatures, but if you are already in a position to infinitely combo off, you will just be directing all damage to your opponent anyways, and dealing damage to creatures has miniscule marginal value. Impact Tremors skips that caveat step and just deals damage to each opponent with no extra strings attached. I would shy away from relying on this card as your absolute win condition, and you would want to look at tutoring Flamewave Invoker for more consistency, but Impact Tremors absolutely has a spot in this deck. Additionally, for even more big brain value, you can play it early to give your opponent a target for removal, and you can bait out some of the interaction that may get in your way of comboing off.

Chromatic Star ~ Timespiral Remastered artwork is the best artwork for this card and if you think otherwise then you are a heathen and if you don't have this version of the card then you are wrong and you should feel wrong and I hope you lose no more and no less than 42 minutes of sleep each night because a random dog keeps barking at the moon.
