[EDH] Korvold, Fae-Cursed King Scapeshift Food Chain (EDH / Commander)

Korvold, Fae-Cursed King is a great jund legend for the sacrifice theme that let us sacrifice a permanent as soon as it enters the battlefield and every time it attacks. The most important part is that it forces us to draw every time a permanent is sacrificed and that where I wanted to put the spotlight... and yes, it buffs itself with a +1/+1 counter and this could be very impactful, but let's stay on track.

Considering that Korvold will guide a 3 color deck, we want to play all the 9 fetchlands we can play. Considering that every fetch will trigger Korvold, we want to be able tu reuse those lands as much as possible. So, for additional land drop we can play cards like Azusa, Lost but Seeking or Oracle of Mul Daya while for recursion we have Ramunap Excavator and Crucible of Worlds.

Now, we can play our commander and have a bunch of land to sacrifice, even for its ETB, but we have to consider that Korvold, Fae-Cursed King will be targeted by remova asap, so we have to consider a big ramp section to be ready to cast it even a couple of time. Here we have other synergic cards lake Curse of Opulence, Dockside Extortionist, Orcish Lumberjack and Treasure Nabber (that let us stole artifact from our opponent to sacrifice for Korvold).

With all this set, we need a way to win. Could not be the best way but it's definitely funny to play Scapeshift! With Dryad of the Ilysian Grove we can find Vesuva + Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and probably be able to win the game OR with Dread Presence we can find Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth OR, if our key creature dies in response to Scapeshift, we can find Vesuva + Field of the Dead to create a ton of zombies. Worst case scenario, we can use Scapeshift to draw as much card from our library as much land we have in play!

But the real boring wincon here is Food Chain + Squee, the Immortal. Sadly Food Chain doesn't work with Korvold because it does't sacrifice creatures, but with infinite creature mana we can cast and exile Korvold as much as we want and we can sacrifice Squee on its ETB to draw our entire library. Form here, we just need Altar of Dementia or Goblin Bombardment to keep sacrificing Squee and win the game (after we sacrificed Korvold to not lose from empty library).

Last thing, beeing a land metters deck we have a lot of good lands to play and tutor instant speed with Crop Rotation: Bojuka Bog for graveyard hate, Geier Reach Sanitarium against Thassa's Oracle, Maze of Ith agaist Voltron and Strip Mine + additional land drop + recursion as soft lock are just some of the possible choise.

Korvold, Fae-Cursed King is a fun and powerful deck to play and a good commander to bend around our preferences! Korvold, Fae-Cursed King è una grande leggenda jund per il tema sacrificio che ci permette di sacrificare un permanente quando entra in gioco e ogni volta che attacca. La cosa più importante è che ci obbliga a pescare una carta ogni volta che un permanente viene sacrificato ed è qui che voglio focalizzare l'attenzione... e sì, si buffa con un segnalino +1/+1 e potrebbe essere rilevante, ma non divaghiamo.

Considerando che Korvold guiderà un mazzo a 3 colori, vogliamo giocare tutte le 9 fetchland a nostra disposizione. Considerando che ogni fetchland innescherà Korvold, vogliamo essere in grado di riusarle il più possibile. Quindi, per land drop addizionali abbiamo carte come Azusa, Lost but Seeking o Oracle of Mul Daya mentre per ricorsione abbiamo Ramunap Excavator e Crucible of Worlds.

Ora, possiamo giocare il nostro comandante e sacrificare un po' di terre, anche per la sua ETB, ma dobbiamo considerare che Korvold, Fae-Cursed King sarà bersaglio di rimozioni immediatamente e dobbiamo quindi considerare una bella sezione ramp per essere in gradi di rigiocarlo anche un paio di volte. Qui abbiamo Curse of Opulence, Dockside Extortionist, Orcish Lumberjack e Treasure Nabber (che ruba artefatti dai nostri avversari per sacrificarli a Korvold).

Preparato tutto questo, ci serve un modo per vincere. Potrà non essere il modo più efficiente ma è decisamente divertente giocare Scapeshift! Con Dryad of the Ilysian Grove possiamo trovare Vesuva + Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle e probabilmente essere in grado di vincere la partita O con Dread Presence possiamo trovare Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth O, se le nostre creature chiave dovessero morire in risposta a Scapeshift, possiamo trovare Vesuva + Field of the Dead per creare una valanga di zombie. Caso peggiore, possiamo usare Scapeshift per pescare tante carte dal nostro grimorio quante terre abbiamo in gioco!

Ma la vera e noiosa wincon è Food Chain + Squee, the Immortal. Purtoppo Food Chain non funziona con Korvold perché non sacrifica creature, ma con mana infinito per creature possiamo lanciare e esiliare Korvold tutte le volte che vorremo a sacrificare Squee al suo ETB per pescare il nostro intero grimorio. Da qui, ci basta Altar of Dementia o Goblin Bombardment per continuare a sacrificare Squee e vincere la partita (magari dopo aver sacrificato Korvold per non perdere da grimorio vuoto).

Infine, essendo un mazzo focalizzato sulle terre abbiamo un bel po' di terre interessanti da giocare e tutorare instant con Crop Rotation: Bojuka Bog per esiliare un cimitero, Geier Reach Sanitarium contro Thassa's Oracle, Maze of Ith contro Voltron e Strip Mine + land drop addizionali + rircorsione come soft lock sono solo alcune delle possibili scelte.

Korvold, Fae-Cursed King è un mazzo divertente e potente da poter giocare e un buon comandante da poter piegare al nostro gusto!
