This is the newest version of Azusa I have created for competitive EDH. The idea is to generate insurmountable mana and card advantage, play big things to end the game quickly. I believe that Azusa runs most effectively with a large land destruction and denial package like in the maybeboard, but I am not using it because I am playing local FNM and don't want to make everyone mad.
Notes: Maybeboard is for strategies that are very viable or matchup-specific.
Maybeboard:
A bunch of the lands here kind of fall into one another. Gaea's Cradle is very expensive but excellent for swarm Azusa builds. If you play cradle, you should play Deserted Temple to break it even further. If you play Deserted Temple, you should play Rishadan Port to tap all your opponents lands, and you should also play cards like Utopia Sprawl or Wild Growth to generate infinite mana. In the most super competitive version this would be ideal, but my meta frowns on infinite combos so I choose not to include the whole package in favor of other strategies.
Primal Surge is good as long as your non-permanents(instants and sorceries) remains below 12 or so, I chose to not include it.
City of Solitude and Dosan the Falling Leaf are for control-heavy metas.
Fallow Earth, Ice Storm, Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, Plow Under, Thermokarst, and Winter's Grasp are all for a heavier land destruction vibe. I think this is one of Azusa's best competitive strategies, but it's obviously frowned on in more casual circles so use with caution.
Woodfall Primus, Terastodon are great creatures, I have a heavily creature-based meta and choose not to include.
Amber Prison is good against Winter Orb and single attackers.
Tawnos's Coffin is amazing vs Bruna Light of Alabaster & Uril the Mistwalker styles as well as single attackers.
Spawnsire of Ulamog is mostly casual, with some interesting aspects. The best part about it is that it doesn't matter if your opponent steals it in a competitive scene since their sideboard most likely won't have eldrazi. On that note, in a sanctioned event the cards must come from your sideboard, so this means that you can't summon multiple copies of a card or more than likely more than 5/6 eldrazi. Not to mention 20 mana is a bit much competitively even for azusa. Casually, this card is pretty funny, especially if you bring out 10 emrakuls or 10 Decimator of the provinces, or both!
