What happened to 12 post?
« en: Noviembre 18, 2016, 07:41:08 pm »
I'm looking at a bunch of legacy decks and one that looks cool is 12 post (or any variation of the deck) but when I look for gameplay of it most things that pop up on YouTube is from 2 years ago. There are you can find people playing it recently, but those are all from magic online and never from a big tournament. So I wanted to ask, what happened to the deck? Why did it pretty much fall out of existence? The deck list that I'm looking at seems pretty good (it's like the vintage workshop list but with cloudposts and glimmerposts. I may post the deck list later but I'm doing this on mobile so it would be annoying.) But yeah, what happened so that post became an irrelevant deck?

I asked my friend Jamie Keller, who does a podcast on legacy, Legacy Weapon.
According to him, the deck is ok, but just doesn't show it in results.
Another reason could be its position in the meta just isn't great.

You can find the podcast on http://www.legacyweapon.com, I know I enjoy it greatly, and gives good insights in the format.
I love synergies, themes and weird combos.
My mind wanders as much as I do.
My crazy ideas are gathered here: https://deckstats.net/forum/index.php?topic=42299.msg115692#msg115692

If I look at the list posted in March by EFro on CFB, http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/deck-of-the-day-legacy-12-post/ it would seem like a deck vulnerable to Wasteland, more so than Tron decks.
That, and as Pat Euglow volunteered, the price of Candalabra of Tawnos.
I love synergies, themes and weird combos.
My mind wanders as much as I do.

The biggest issue are wastelands for you which requires the needles. Another reason is tempo. delver and other tempo decks are a problem for you. Stifle on an Expedition map hits you too hard. the other fact is consistency. Dependig on your list you have touble to get things done. At my local gamestore is a player who plays always post. last week UG Titanpost with Primeval Titan and this week MUD Post, a lock/prison deck with chalice, trinisphere and lodestone Golem.

Yes I am familiar with these problems but with running 4 pithing needles (3 main and 1 side usually) I think you can work around wasteland especially since we also have crop rotation to counter their wastelands as well and we can use that instead of expedition map if needed. How has this player you're talking about performed? Has he been winning his games or is he going 0-X? I can see the problem with LockPost since it doesn't run any green to help find lands, and can heavily rely on map to find the lands that it needs.

Having to promote to mainboard 3 copies of a card that you would normally have in your sideboard tells you a fair lot of the weaknesses of the deck.
Besides, I remember this archetype used to run cards like Exploration, Life from the Loam and sometimes Constant Mists.
I didn't see them in recent decklists, why have been them put out? Could someone explain the raisoning beneath?
Also, why a card such as Glacial Chasm, which I personally find terrible without Life from the Loam, is in?

Man, I'd forgot all about this archetype. Blast from the past.
