Silas Renn is less important than it seems, it's here to give colors. Being able to connect every turn and get back an egg is a luxury, you should not make it your gameplan (even though
Flight Spellbomb and
Wedding Invitation were chosen because of their possibility to support connecting every turn).
You must not
forget that Ich-Tekik triggers for ANY artifact going into a graveyard. Often, opponents having theirs destroyed will be enough to grow your board.
I ain't gonna lie, the deck is very complicated to play and not that powerful (but it's my favorite by far amongst my more than a dozen of decks).
It needs a critical mass of creatures on board, a critical mass of artifact eggs so you can reach some and crack them, and the usual critical mass of ramp, draw and removals so you don't get behind. It's hard to
balance all of those types of cards, the deck's trying to do lots of things at the same time.
The order in which I'd advise to play things would be the following : Take it slow and prioritize ramp as much as possible in the early turns, cast the golems (I ended up choosing low mana costs over raw power and evasion because being able to cast them as pawns for little mana that will later grow into queens was much better) and then start to play with the commanders.
By the way, how you ramp with those Forest-fetching spells and Fetchlands is very important to prepare for
Spire Golem,
Dross Golem and
Spectral Deluge. I'd advise you to read the description to switch some lands for original duals if your playgroup is okay with it (they're sad money slaves if they aren't). You could also play
Cyclonic Rift over
Spectral Deluge.
Most of the cards being able to trigger Ich-Tekik and grow the golems somehow have multiple uses, that's why I feel comfortable with how much I run by now. They're either eggs that can be got back with Silas or cards that will virtually trigger multiple times (
Hardened Scales,
Tireless Provisioner,
Noble's Purse or
Treasure Vault).
Spark Double /
Irenicus's Vile Duplication are powerful to a point where I'll probably swap
Geode Golem for
Sakashima of a Thousand Faces at some point.
Copying Ich-Tekik gives you two creatures and doubles your artifacts triggers, they're the best cards in the deck to grow a board.
I refuse to play busted cards like
Rhystic Study,
Cyclonic Rift, Demonic +
Vampiric Tutor etc. The deck would be strictly better with them but at the price of losing what makes it cool and interesting but that's your call.
PS : haven't made the change yet but
Relic of Legends will replace
Kodama's Reach.
PS 2 : I can't stop considering
Bootleggers' Stash since it got released. 6 mana for a card that won't do much the turn it enters feels bad but I know if I have a reasonnable amount of golems on board when I untap with it, it will be spectacular. I'll have to try it at some point.
