I quickly finished putting together this deck so I can start to revise it. Let me know if you have suggestions on how to make the deck more on theme or function a little better!

This is the perfect deck no competition wizards should just shutdown because they'll never make anything to beat this deck.

I appreciate the vote of confidence lol.

I have Started to put together a Deck based on the Show "Tiger King". So far I have the a basic Land/ Mana rock setup and the Cast of the show. Let me know if you think I should change any of my cast selections. This deck is just a fun Theme deck so I am shooting for a lower budget on this one. For those who have seen the show, it is a complete train wreak! that being said, I'm fine with this deck being more theme focused rather than function.

Deck: Tiger King

Alright everyone, I have put a little bit of thought into this and I'm thinking about building a deck inspired by the show "Tiger King" with Saskia the Unyielding (aka Joe Exotic) at the helm. I just feel like Saskia is so fitting as the commander for many reasons.

1: The artwork, look at it an tell me it doesn't beg for the flavor text "that bitch, Carole Baskin"
2: The card effect. First off, you get to choose a player, the obvious choice being "that bitch, Carole Baskin" (aka your opponent) and then no mater who you hit, damage will also be directed at... you guessed it, "that bitch Carole Baskin"
3: Saskia the Unyielding is a decent option for a cat tribal deck.
4: Vigilance and Haste = Meth

Let me know what cards I should consider putting in this deck and I'll see if I can knock it out this weekend!

I decided on Deserts vs the Faithful from the Amonket block. Both have Cycling and Deserts, but the each have their own use of the other mechanics of the block

This is a cool match up. I like how they are both similar in their functions but still have their own objectives. The price point is spot on as well. I've got almost all these cards in my collection so I might end up putting these decks together and seeing how they play against each other.

If you have a lot of bulk cards in your collection you could have fun building some pauper or casual/ modern battle decks. In addition to MTG I also play a lot of different RPG table top games so I think its fun to build decks with a story and theme behind them. humans vs. vampires, elves vs. merfolk, angels vs. demons. It's like building your own duel decks with some story telling mixed in. you can check out my pissed off peasants beck to get an idea of what i mean. https://deckstats.net/decks/122571/1173897-pissed-off-peasants

You could also experiment with different formats like 2 headed giant, archenemy, and un-commander (silver border commander).

Disclaimer: The suggestions I am about to make will most likely place a very big target on your back and make your friends like you a lot less.

Crypt Ghast will double down all the mana produced by your swamps. Pump that mana into Sands of Delirium. To maximize library milling you could throw in a Bloodchief Ascension. For discard I like Raiders' Wake, Sangromancer, and Bloodhusk Ritualist. If you want to add insult to injury, you could always thrown in Sanguine Bond and since your friends already despise you at this point you might as well make it a combo meal with Exquisite Blood. Once everyone's graveyards are stacked up you could throw in a Necrotic Ooze just for fun.

I feel like this commander is begging for a whole lot of milling and forced discard. You've got a lot of great cards in here but I'm not picking up on the overall strategy.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: My Spin on Animar, Soul of Elements
« on: March 30, 2020, 10:31:10 pm »
Hi!

Animar Cheerios is a known deck archetype. It involves freecasting a lot of colourless creatures - especially low-costed ones.

Lands
Your deck runs very few lands. I think it could with a couple more lands, especially in the multi colour department. Animar is hard to cast and Animar pretty much needs to be the first thing on your board in order to get the snowball going. You should replace the "enters the battlefield tapped" lands with something that doesn't enter tapped: some pain lands, Mystic Confluence, City of Brass, Exotic Orchard, Forbidden Orchard. In addition you should add the shock lands and Sheltered Thicket for its dual utility being a Forest to fetch for and cyclable if you don't need it.

Ramp
You need more colour-producing land or creature ramp. Use spells like Birds of Paradise, Beastcaller Savant etc... For lands go with Sakura-Tribe Elder, Wood Elves, Yavimaya Dryad etc... You could justify Utopia Sprawl if you also include lots of Forests... I don't know, maybe a little dangerous. At least Embodiment of Spring.

Protection
Add some protection. Animar is a target and if someone manages to remove it you're in trouble. Add cards like Frilled Mystic, Mystic Snake, Venser, Shaper Savant, Draining Whelk.

EDIT: Removal
Manglehorn, Reclamation Sage, Steelbane Hydra, Thrashing Brontodon

EDIT: Cool cards
Hardened Scales, Walking Ballista, Nightshade Peddler (goes well with Walking Ballista and Apocalypse Hydra), Hadana's Climb (hey a flying Animar, watch out!), Llanowar Reborn (handy for getting that first counter on Animar), Inspiring Call

Thank you for the recommendations. I didn't know there was an archetype called cheerios lol, makes sense.

On the topic of lands... I know I need to invest in better lands, especially for some of my more frequently played decks. I completely agree that they are important! however, it pains me to spend lots of money on lands. Since I don't play in tournaments or FNM events and really only play with friends, having a perfect land base has always been on the back burner for most of my decks. a couple people in my play group have said the same thing to me on more than one occasion. I will eventually revamp all my land bases for my decks.

So far I haven't run into to many problems getting Animar our by turn 4 at the latest. I could make it more consistent with some added color producing dorks. I'll probable use some of your suggestions!

Steelband Hydra and hardened scales will probably earn a spot in the deck. I have some decent protection in the deck with swiftfoot boots, alpha authority, asceticism, heroic intervention, negate, and counterspell but it might be a good idea to bump it up a bit.

Nightshade peddler is a new card for me! I have a couple decks where that might come in handy.

I'm not sure of the worth of Sol Ring and some of the other creatures/ramp you have that produce colorless mana as Animar pretty much takes care of that himself. I don't run any colorless ramp in my Animar deck and in 8 years of running the deck it's never been a problem.

Also, you lack a real power finisher. Craterhoof is obviously the top of the line but if that's out of your price range, God-Eternal Rhonas isn't a bad replacement.

When I was picking the creatures for this deck I really only based it on CMC. I wanted to keep the CMC pretty low across the board with the exception of some big guys like It That Betrays and Pathrazer of Ulamog. The colorless ramp doesn't do much for my creatures but it comes in handy for Open into wonder and the couple of X spells I've got.

My turn 2 Animar normally comes by way of a turn 1 basic -> sol ring -> 2 drop mana dork. I drop my second basic on turn 2 and have Animar hit the battlefield with 2 colorless from Sol Ring to get out 1 or 2 creatures.

My Goal here is to pump up Animar as fast as possible and swing for commander damage early. I know it's not the most effective strategy but it sure is fun! That being said, I do love me a good Craterhoof! I might throw him in as another solid finisher in case Animar ends up having trouble staying on the battlefield.

I call this deck Animar's Toy Chest because it's designed to storm the battlefield with mostly artifact creatures (Animar's toys); most of which end up being free to cast. I have looked at, and like a lot of Animar decks, most notably decks based around morph creatures. This build might be a little unconventional but since I already have a morph theme deck I didn't want to go that route with with one. I did include a couple morph creatures but it's not the main focus.

The deck is a swing for the fences deck and as long as it goes off before a big board wipe hits the battle field, it has the potential to knock out opponents pretty fast. This deck does paint a pretty big target on your back but sometimes it's fun to be that guy.

Commander Discussion / Re: Bear Tribal vs. Sliver Tribal

I just don't think that with the limited cards currently available to support bears, Ayula would be able to consistently win against Slivers.

Don't think of it as support for bears. Ayula is interactive. If you can strategically get rid of the stronger Slivers, or attack the mana base (Collector Ouphe). You'll bring the deck down to size, long enough for you to set up your game-winning combo.

I was just about to echo what Morganator said.

Bears are objectively a weaker tribe than slivers, but Ayula is surprisingly strong. That fight ability is real. If you can get yourself a way to make bears consistently every turn, and they do exist, that deck can do work.

The point of the Ayula deck is to fight. Fight often and fight well. Keep the board clear of problems. You aren't looking to amass a large amount of bears and go toe to toe because you'll probably lose. Bears suck. Ayula does not. You're fighting everything and punching in with a massive Ayula. Unless you've got a hoof. Then you might get away with a bear army.

Ayula is art imitating life. A bear who wants a fight will fuck you up.

I know from experience that my Ayula deck is formidable and when it works it is very effective. I think one of the issues I have going up against slivers is most players that run well built sliver decks spare no expense! I spent just under $300 on my Ayula deck vs. my friend's sliver deck is pushing north of $1k. So it's understandable that a sliver deck such as his would win most of the time. It would be a little disappointing if you spent that kind of money and repeatedly got thumped by a "budget" deck.

If I were to truly optimize my Ayula deck and spare no expense it might be a little more on point. I just don't think that with the limited cards currently available to support bears, Ayula would be able to consistently win against Slivers.

Commander Discussion / Re: Good ways to protect one's graveyard?
« on: March 27, 2020, 08:53:01 pm »
Ground Seal! Not the best if you plan on targeting anything in your own graveyard but at least it will be protected  :P
Looks like a good card but it won't do anything against the three exile pieces I mentioned. :(

Shoot! I forgot that world effects don't actually target each individual card.

Disallow/Stifle type effects that counter the ability. Or an instant speed shuffle effect like Perpetual Timepiece or Elixir of Immortality in response to the exile ability.

I think WWolfe hit the nail on the head. Protection would need to be reactive rather than proactive.
