General Magic / Re: The State of Modern in a Post Unbanned State

I have never played with JTMS but as an avid blue mage I am course deeply interested in him.

The thing is JTMS was never legal in Modern and the only format he ever broke was Standard.  In the context of Modern where the card pool/deck archetypes are overwhelmingly larger and the speed of format is much faster this 4-drop Planeswalker seems like it should have been safe to play from the start.

The good news for those of us still needing copies of this Jace is that his price is dropping.  I'd like to him to fill a slot or two in my Jeskai Geist deck.

Hehe my thoughts exactly, this dinosaur screams for a turn 3 play and yes that would be fun indeed!  :D

I would say with the cards you currently have you can't go wrong with choosing your favorites and building off of that.  Legendaries are fine if your deck can support them.

Planeswalkers aren't everything, they aren't a "necessity".  It's more about the composition of your deck and what you're trying to achieve with it.  That said, it's also good to learn how to use them and be aware of their interactions.

Although it's a vanilla creature Gigantosaurus blows my mind... reminds me of the first time I saw Force of Nature back in the day.  ;D

I recommend watching some matches on YouTube.

Search for any format (Modern, Legacy, etc.) and watch a few games to get an idea of where it's at.

They're coming up real soon.  I'm still working on tweaking the ratio and will post it once complete.

Hey that's great you went to your first pre-release and had a good time.  Sounds like some good moments for sure.

I went to my first pre-release a couple months ago as well.  I went with a buddy, we did two-headed giant and lost every round.  That format is a different beast altogether but it was cool just to go and experience it.

I think Event decks and other pre-made decks offered by WotC are great for either someone just getting into the game or bringing new people into the game.

If you're just getting into the game you can buy a pre-made deck and test it out.  They're not too expensive and will help you learn the basics.  They're built to be synergistic as well so you'll get a feel for how certain cards can compliment others.

If you're bringing someone new into the game then it's great to start off with a Clash Pack.  Both decks are tuned to be competitive but not overly powerful against one another.  You can teach the new player the basics and mechanics and be assured they have a decent deck to play and learn with.

General Magic / Re: Favorite Color to play
« on: July 21, 2015, 07:11:41 pm »
I would have to say White is my favorite color to play.

It's primarily due to nostalgia.  Back in the day I loved to play with cards like Serra Angel, Personal Incarnation, Kjeldoran Outpost, Wrath of God, Enlightened Tutor, Enduring Renewal and others.  I like the idea of justice and holiness - fighting for the side of good.

These days I find myself still attracted to white cards.  I've got a Human tribal deck that I'm developing and hoping to make competitive in Modern.

General Magic / Re: Favorite Planeswalker?

Garruk and Elspeth are my favorite Planeswalkers.

Garruk is a total Beast!

I've played mostly with Primal Hunter and all of his abilities are insane.  Offense/defense by summoning Beasts, card drawing ability (targeting Primeval Titan is no joke), and his ultimate is just wow.. it's hard to keep a straight face on when you're attacking for the win with a mass of 6/6 Wurms lol.  ;D

Elspeth is appealing to me as she's a badass holy righteous warrior Knight commander lady.

I've played mostly with Tirel and have really only used her top 2 abilities.  Casting her at the right time, summoning 3 Soldiers, and then successfully protecting her with them for subsequent turns is truly something special.  Left unchecked, and paired with other shenanigans like say Gavony Township or Mentor of the Meek, her army is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Honorable mention goes to Jace.

I missed out on The Mind Sculptor so I've never experienced playing with his madness, but Beleren and Memory Adept are crazy fun to play with as well.  Milling your opponent for 10 right off the bat, and on subsequent turns if Memory Adept is properly protected, is incredibly absurd.  I was never really one for milling, but winning with Memory Adept's middle ability is inspiring and instantly reminds you that hit points aren't the only way to lose.
