General Magic / Re: Help With Black/Green Elves?

For discarding as your secondary strategy, you could use Duress, Mind Rot, or Diplomacy of the Wastes. If you want to sub out a few more cards, Waste Not is a must have but it gets further away from your Elf theme. Ordeal of Erebos pumps up your creatures and has a nice discard effect. Whaddaya think?  :D

Possible additions?
Human Frailty - Use it on your humans to make Grave Pact deadlier
Bonds of Faith - Helps you, hurts your opponents
Commander's Authority - Ramps up Grave Pact

The former, I would say.

Does anyone know of any great/simple primers into MTG Modern? Things like deck building, strategy, etc.?

Must have:
Hero's Downfall - Good defensive move.
Collected Company - All but two of your creatures have a CMC of 3 or less.
Life's Legacy - Use it to sacrifice Deadbridge Shaman so they discard a card and you draw a card.
Thoughtseize - Cheap and easy spell to disrupt them.
Winds of Qal Sisma - Another good defensive move.

What were you thinking in terms of a secondary strategy?

General Magic / Seeking Clarification for Kinship/Creature Type Rules
« am: September 16, 2015, 05:50:47 Vormittag »
With Kinship abilities, in cases of creatures with two word types (Merfolk Wizard, Human Cleric, Goblin Warrior, etc.) must the two creatures' types be exact or just contain at least one of the words?

For example, let's say that I have Ink Dissolver on the field. If I reveal Stern Mentor or Vedalken Entrancer during my upkeep step, would I be able to use Ink Dissolver's Kinship ability legitimately and have my opponent discard the top 3 cards of his library into his graveyard? Why or why not?

The only thing is, Transmute only works for CMC 3 exactly. So I would rather keep the cost of cards high, even if it takes slightly longer to play them, to best utilize Drift of Phantasms and Ethereal Usher to maximum ability.

I thought about adding that, but it would slow the deck down considerably. If there were a cheaper alternative to Groundshaker Sliver, I would even take that out. But I think the combination of Muscle Sliver and Predatory Sliver gives the player an advantage by keeping the average cmc under 3. But I greatly appreciate the suggestion!

I would agree with VincentVG, in that the only drawback I can see in this deck is not drawing Torpor Orb first hand. I would suggest Fabricate, Reshape, or Hushwing Gryff. The only thing is that adding any of these cards will inevitably cause you to change/restructure the color scheme of the deck.

If you are willing to change the deck from Modern to Legacy, you could use Hushwing Gryff and Enlightened Tutor to increase probabilities with Torpor Orb.

If not, you could also replace Leveler with Tezzeret the Seeker or Kuldotha Forgemaster. But adding the latter would change the deck's mechanics slightly to be more sacrificial in nature.

Tapout B/W

Tap your opponent's creatures before they can make a move.

Looking for suggestions/feedback!

If you are looking for another card similar to Goblin Fireslinger, I would suggest Rakdos Ickspitter or Prodigal Pyromancer. Grind 'em down!

Deck Reviews / [Modern] Island Walkers

Island Walkers

Use Transmute abilities from Drift of Phantasms and Ethereal Usher to search for Chasm Skulker
Use Clone to double as Chasm Skulker
Use See Beyond, Divination, and Otherworld Atlas to ramp up +1/+1 counters for Chasm Skulker/Clone
Use Pongify/Ratchet Bomb/Drowned Rusalka to destroy/sacrifice Chasm Skulker/Clone
Use Sea's Claim/Spreading Seas for a legion of Island Walkers to win game.

Deathtouch Immortal

Small creatures with Deathtouch who, with the help of artifacts and enchantments, become indestructible. Relatively fast playing deck.

Feedback/suggestions welcomed!

Going off of what G. Moto said, I agree. I think you could add some more black Elf cards. In addition, I would humbly suggest removing Eyeblight Massacre and Ultimate Price in order to add in Deadbridge Shaman or Eyeblight Assassin. You have a deck of predominantly creatures, it seems almost like an afterthought to have so few noncreature spells in the deck. Otherwise, I dig it. Solid deck!
