Deck Reviews / Returning player looking to finish his first modern deck.
« em: Janeiro 30, 2023, 03:06:35 am »
Important NOTE: Colossus is just a filler card I added, so there is room for about 10 other cards.

The idea is to mix up a couple budget combos into something that can steal wins.

Druid + Quillspike

Druid + Vizier + Brusshwag/Manticore/Crawling Barrens

Vizier/Melira + Altar/Bombardment + Finks/Redcap/Manticore

This is far from fine tuned still, but I'd like to get everything in order soon.

Deck: combos

//Main
2 Almighty Brushwagg
3 Altar of Dementia
10 Colossus of Akros
2 Crawling Barrens
4 Devoted Druid
7 Forest
3 Fortified Village
3 Game Trail
2 Goblin Bombardment
2 Jungle Shrine
3 Kitchen Finks
1 Lesser Masticore
1 Lightning Greaves
2 Melira, Sylvok Outcast
2 Mountain
2 Murderous Redcap
1 Plains
4 Quillspike
2 Selesnya Sanctuary
4 Vizier of Remedies

Deck Reviews / $15 Gate Deck for Standard (Tested)
« em: Março 06, 2020, 03:23:17 am »
Just wanted to share a pretty decent budget deck for standard I have been working on. You could probably get it down to $10 dollars if you wanted by weakening the sideboard, or by asking people to sell you their commons for cheap. A lot of these are cards that people might easily be willing to part with or have spares.

It's given some more expensive decks a run for their money, and has been effective against many different strategies in my test on MTGO.

Deck: $15 Gate Deck for Standard (Tested)

//Main
2 Azorius Guildgate
4 Cerulean Drake
3 Deafening Clarion
2 Expansion // Explosion //
1 Forest
4 Gate Colossus
4 Gatebreaker Ram
4 Gates Ablaze
4 Gateway Plaza
3 Glaive of the Guildpact
4 Gruul Guildgate
3 Izzet Guildgate
2 Negate
4 Open the Gates
4 Opt
4 Plaza of Harmony
2 Quench
2 Selesnya Guildgate
4 Simic Guildgate

//Sideboard
2 Applied Biomancy
2 Crushing Canopy
2 Disdainful Stroke
1 Expansion // Explosion //
2 Forest
2 Negate
2 Sinister Sabotage
2 Thassa's Intervention

Strategy notes:
Inexpensive board wiping / Partially scaling
Deck/Mana fixing for multicolor. (Lands ramp up strength of cards, slight mana flood = still good)
Counter spell (cheap and counter expensive cards) (protect integral cards for strategy)
Some life gain to "legitimize" stabilization
Core cards: Gatebreaker Ram, Deafening Clarion, Gates Ablaze, Gate Colossus

Seems like you will be mana starved. I also like to have a few cards that specifically work together that I HAVE to have 4 of. If you're playing with your collection, it's a great deck, just needs mana. Otherwise, if you have a few dollars to spend I would find which cards work best together and make sure I had 4 of them.

I think I might sideboard gargoyle and put in archway angel. The gargoyle isn't bad actually. 9/9 flying for 6 mana, survives gates ablaze too so has some extra synergy over angel.  I think angel is probably the safer choice though.

Basically a ramp deck. Relies on Gates Ablaze and Deafening Clarion to aid in the stalling process. Then it goes all in on card draw, using Gateway Sneak and Guild Summit, to draw even more gates, for more ramp, and more gate synergy.

Please give opinions. Don't just down vote. I know it's pretty bad but I haven't played in a long time and need to pick someones brain.

Not decisive enough. I understand just running 2 of a legendary card but for example, why just 1 Undergrowth Champion? Why just 1 Verdurous Gearhulk? Have a clear plan. Then sideboard in.

Prophetic Prism feels pretty weak. Maybe I'm missing something though. If you think its good I wont argue because it may well be. I would run 4 Aether Swoopers instead. They're decent hp budget blocker, with an ability to create more blockers, and they're a way to vent energy from other cards.

I'd also run 4 Stasis Snare or some other for of control to specifically use against enemy flyers so Aether Swooper could reliably create servos, or generally just anything you can't handle otherwise.

It seems like you want to use Metallic Mimic so your Aetherborn Can survive Yahenni's Expertise? If I hit the mark I'll be honest, it's shaky. Definitely a fun idea. I think splashing green could be a big help if that was what you were trying to pull off.

Seems like a really fun deck!

I would definitely consider taking out Aethersphere Harverster and Indomitable Creativity. I think Peacewalker Colossus is a better option than Harvester. Needle Spires would be an interesting option. Turn your land into a creature to crew your vehicles. In any case its better than Stone Quarry.

Heart of Kiran is great if you plan on using Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. I believe thats the combo.

Deck Reviews / {Standard} G/R/b Off-meta Energy

https://deckstats.net/decks/79048/663679-g-r-b-off-meta-but-gewd-?share_key=yXkUYrGo0M6TN8CE

1) Crew Harverster with 1/1 servos or 1/3 Aethertorch Renegade
2) Produce lots of energy for Renegade and Longtusk Cub via Empyreal Voyager and Cub.
3) Avoid blockers through Renegades ability and Flyers
4) Some synergy with Renegade and Chaser, making his first strike range more dangerous.
5) Draw cards through Chandra and Rashmi so deck doesn't get stalled out so easily.

I think it has really good synergy. Turn 3 Longtusk pumps up to 5 for example, 6 if he generates more energy. What do you guys think? Opinions? Improvements? FNM worthy?

A quick comparisson: I like G/R.....

---THIS DECK
Turn 1 Attune with Aether
turn 2 Longtusk Cub
turn 3 Aethertorch Renegade (pump Cub up to 5/5 then swing )
turn 4 Empyreal Voyager + 1 mana for Blossoming Defense if needed.
VS

---THIS DECK
Turn 2 Aether Chaser
Turn 3 Aethersphere Harvester (Chaser attacks and creates a servo for Harverster to defend)
Turn 4 Longtusk Cub + 1-2 mana for spells to help Chasers First Strike.
VS

---ANOTHER G/R
Turn 2 Voltaic Brawler
Turn 3 Lathnu Helion (Swing 4/3 & 4/4)
Turn 4 Bristling Hydra
Turn 5 Verdurous Gearhulk
VS

---G/R PUMMELER
Turn 1 Attune with Aether
Turn 2 Voltaic Brawler
Turn 3 Electrostatic Pummeler (Swing 4/3 Tr)
Turn 4 Larger than Life  (Swing 4/3 Tr & 20/20 Tr)

General Magic / Cataclysmic Gearhulk with Fairgrounds Warden
« em: Janeiro 01, 2017, 05:33:03 pm »
If you have a Fairgrounds Warden in play and it's exiling an opponents creature what happens when if play Cataclysmic Gearhulk and choose to sacrifice your Warden?

I'm thinking that the opponents creature would come back into play. I was reading Gearhulks rulings and it says that all sacrifices are made simultaneously. Negative synergy?

Attune with Aether a bit slow for aggro.

[deck="Untitled Deck"]
//Main
4 Aether Hub
2 Architect of the Untamed
4 Attune with Aether
4 Blossoming Defense
4 Botanical Sanctum
2 Confiscation Coup
4 Empyreal Voyager
2 Fabrication Module
9 Forest
5 Island
4 Kessig Prowler
2 Kiora, Master of the Depths
4 Longtusk Cub
2 Malfunction
2 Nissa, Vital Force
2 Rashmi, Eternities Crafter
4 Servant of the Conduit
[/deck]

I just got back in to MTG so I bought the Nissa premade deck. Long story short this was my "updated" version of that. I wanted to make it competitive but I just don't feel it is.

Can't decide where to go from here. I was hoping some of you guys had played with or against something similar and could give some feedback.
