Not sure if it will be a staple but it should see play especially in casual groups. It's an instant for 3 mana that destroy's something and an uncommon. Nothing flashy and/or spectacular but it will see play. Price isn't an issue nor should it be. Plus it is also competing against all the other 3 drop white staples so it will be hard pressed to become a staple itself.

Commander Deck Reviews / Re: Aragorn
« le: Septembre 04, 2023, 04:09:48 pm »
I made a budget deck of this commander using a Monarch/Goad theme.  I came to a few realizations about Aragon. First my opponents always like trying to take the Monarch from me. It is card draw and to be expected. 2nd using Aragon is great especially when attacking and being the Monarch. Making your army completely unblockable is definitely a bonus. However keeping the Monarch while using Aragon's ability isn't always an easy task. Your deck looks like it needs more Monarch which there are 32 cards that are tied to being or getting you the Monarch. https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=oracle%3Amonarch+commander%3AWUR+%28game%3Apaper%29

Then I am planning on switching into extra combat steps like Combat Celebrant, Port Razor, Aurelia, the Warleader, Bloodthirster, and Karlach, Fury of Avernus. Because while Aragon can give unblockable but he only does 4 commander damage with lifelink. So extra combat steps helps increase the commander damage along with more life.

Commander Discussion / Re: Best Card In Your Deck
« le: Août 31, 2023, 06:14:52 pm »
Very interesting question so lets start with....

Rith, the Awakener with the card Fighter Class. This card always performs in this deck and I always use it to search for skullclamp. Then putting it to level 2 and then skull clamps equips for 0 and it just draws mad on the tokens I get.

Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer and it is the background I use with it. Raised by Giants works every single time. Just having a 10/10 commander whilst everyone else has to attack each other and me swinging willy nilly is great.

Hans Eriksson is probably going to be Pathbreaker Ibex whilst attacking with it and another creature never mind multiple creatures which makes it absurd.

Araumi of the Dead Tide is a no brainer. Gray Merchant of Asphodel and the massive life swing just from encoring gary is massive.

Commander Discussion / Re: Goad as Pillowfort
« le: Août 03, 2023, 02:13:00 am »
I am the king of goad in my playgroups. It is a very interesting mechanic that inspires you to aim and finish for 2nd place. However when used correctly it can win casual games. Goading however does need a finisher because when it comes down to 1 v 1 then it becomes pointless to use unlike pillow fort. Also using goad is more efficient when goading multiple creatures at one time compared to just 1 creature. That is why disrupt decorum, taunt from the rampart and Komainu Battle Armor are much better cards to use. The thing with goad is to not rely on it to heavily because then all your doing is having your opponents beat each other up while you just do nothing but goad. Goad moves things along very rapidly. Goad forces others to attack each other while pillowfort an opponent can still attack you. Alas that also pillowfort shuts down goad cause the goaded player doesn't have to attack the pillowfort opponent because he isn't obligated to pay.

She has to get out of the main focus of winning and losing. Think of it as playing a board game at home where nothing more is going to happen if you win or lose. Yes it is nice when you do win but drop that focus for the time being. Next since decks have been made for her she needs to create something to call her own. You both sit down find out what she likes to play, the play style, what is she going to enjoy. Then go to skryfall and look up and read the commanders to have her choose one she may like. Then with you aiding her while making suggestions use of course this website and build a commander deck. Just something she can enjoy that she knows is hers. Keep the focus on synergy stuff she wants in the deck. Then when she actually plays it on paper she could then ask these question upon any wins or loses. "Did the deck play out the way I wanted it to"? "Did I have fun playing this deck"?. Focusing on the deck itself and not whether or not it wins/loses will take off a lot of the pressure off. As time progresses she'll come to make other decks that will shift that focus. Then as she plays let her make her own decisions whether they be right/wrong because it is a complex game. So instead of trying to mirror you guys she needs to find her own way of playing.

Commander Deck Reviews / Quintorius Taking Control

Quintorius Taking Control

Utilizing other opponents creatures with Storm Herd as a finisher. The land base is just basics so you can swap out whatever lands you want to help the deck

I don't see a new dimension with Mirkwood Bats considering there all ready is Marionette Master that especially with treasure tokens. Make a treasure token, sac it and with both of those cards on the battlefield that is going to be 5 damage.  Then add any food and clue tokens and welcome to the pain train. Figure at 5 damage and on avg of 40 or less life for your opponents, won't be hard to have 8 artifacts enter to sacrifice and or destroy.

I don't know if you want to use this but it is mana intensive but however if it isn't dealt with it could take over your battle cube. That card is Drakuseth, Maw of Flames. That is going to be a lot of damage to any targets.

If you are interested in keeping opponents to attack each other then how about just goad? For instance simple things like Komainu Battle Armor and Bloodthirsty Blade. They both do similar things but Komainu would force an opponents team to attack opponents instead of a battle and Bloodthirsty focuses on just a single creature to attack an opponent,

Commander Discussion / Re: Grading the new staples

Esper Sentinel and Farewell have turned into very good cards. Esper is even greater when you get it out on turn 1. Farewell is a guaranteed board wipe unless of course it gets countered. One can also unselect one of the modes to keep something around but I rarely see this happen.

The card I see undervalued as of recently is Scholar of New Horizons. For 2 mana it ramps white. It removes a counter from any permanent you control even the counter on itself. There is a possibility that granted it will put the land into your hand but in my playgroups there is someone who is ramping ahead of you. For a 2 drop 1 dollar cheap ramp spell this card has been worth it for me.

I am not a blue player but like it was said about An Offer You Can't Refuse I haven't seen the downside to giving an opponent 2 treasures. However I don't see this card played a lot but again when it is played the 2 treasures have seemed insignificant.

General Magic / Re: What do we think of Sieges?

I think they were meh. You get an effect and then have to waste resources on it to get the 2nd effect. Even after doing 2 prereleases for this set they just were meh. In limited when you have only 20 life I would rather be aiming to take your 20 life. Why waste damage resources to defeat you later when I can defeat you now. Basically it delays the inevitable of someone dying.

Don't know how much proliferate cards you are interested in but doing a skryfall search with the word proliferate that  ends up with 76 cards where the text includes “proliferate” and (the card is available on Paper).  Cards from MOM as well Etched Host Doombringer, Protocol Knight, Thrashing Frontliner, War-Trained Slasher, Portent Tracker, Rampaging Geoderm, Render Inert, Beamtown Beatstick, Lithomantic Barrage, Rankle and Torbran, Volcanic Spite, Nahiri's Warcrafting, Ayara, Widow of the Realm, Deeproot Wayfinder, and Kami of Whispered Hopes.

General Magic / Re: Games you've enjoyed
« le: Mai 07, 2023, 04:39:38 pm »
It wasn't so much a game but a particular sequence of events that took place in a game. Set the stage: Casual, Planeschase cards, and 3 player game. I only have 1 creature on board and it's a Maddening Imp because I decided to also play my chaos deck with the chaos that comes from doing Planeschase. Player A who is next to play after me has 2 creatures in play which are vague in my mind but however he has a 6/6 red dragon in play (I can't recall but I know it was a dragon). It is player B's turn and he rolls the planer die. He roll's chaos and the plane says he has to put counters on a creature which he has none on his board. So he makes a deal with player A to put said counters on his dragon as long as the dragon doesn't attack him for 2 turns. I am now thinking that this thing is coming my way but however looking at my hand and I have in my hand Vow of Wildness and Visions of Brutality while also  thinking glad you guys made this agreement. It passes to my turn and I put both the Vow of Wildness and Visions of Brutality on his dragon. Passing my turn with Maddening Imp in play and let's see what happens. Tapping Maddening Imp to force his dragon to attack player B he actually sticks to his word and let's his dragon die because he didn't attack with it. I lost the game but for a whole different chaotic reason,
