So I have been thinking about this for awhile but is it just me or does Odric, Lunarch Marshal look like George Clooney and Chandra Torch of Defiance look like Scarlet Johansson? If you see the similarities what other cards do you think look famous people?

Deck Reviews / [Casual] Jeskai Token Control
« on: October 27, 2016, 10:47:24 pm »
Jeskai Token Control

The whole goal of this deck is to control the game with counter and burn spells and overrun the opponent with tokens. The main win conditions are monastery mentor and young pyromancer. You can also just burn your opponent out. This deck is untested and not a final list. Mindsculpter is in here just for kicks I would replace him and maybe void shatter with mana leak if you want to.

General Magic / Stable mana bases with out breaking a budget.
« on: October 25, 2016, 05:48:48 pm »
So for the past few weeks I have been building a sweet little jeskai token control build and it has gone through many revisions and edits although I have yet to actually make proxies and play. Here is the deck btw https://deckstats.net/decks/61302/591953-jeskai-token-control/en
Now the one thing I keep going back to is the mana base. So in a three color deck how many two color lands do I need to play to be able to get a reliable mana base on the field. Orignally I was gonna play flooded strand to fetch sacred foundry and prairie stream but that is kinda pricey especially if I go a step further and play steam vents in which case I would probably play a couple copies of arid mesa too, which is even more expensive. I am having trouble choosing between the scry lands, life lands, and man lands. What are your guys thoughts on this?

General Magic / In EDH is it best to have one strategy for your Deck?
« on: September 27, 2016, 06:50:09 pm »
So I have been trying to come up with a Jesaki EDH deck but I have run into the problem where I am having trouble deciding can I make into a Token control deck or is that trying to do to much. If I want to go straight control I think that is pretty simple its Narset, enlightened master, spells and planeswalkers, maybe a couple of creatures but not a whole lot. If I want to go straight tokens I should shift to Naya for access to all the green token generators that are staples in token decks. How do I find a middle ground so I can do both I know that most edh have to have at least 2 or 3 ways of winning so building a token control deck doesn't seem completely crazy. Any suggestions on how to approach this?

General Magic / Re: Can Jesaki Tokens EDH be a thing?

Thanks for giving me a starting point I like the sound of it and if I run more spells Monastery Mentor and Young pyromancer would also be great, As for commanders Jesaki is normally commanded by Narset Enlightened Master but if I'm running more creatures then I probably want someone else right.

General Magic / Can Jesaki Tokens EDH be a thing?
« on: September 23, 2016, 04:57:19 pm »
So I have been trying to build an EDH deck right and I want to play jesaki because I love controlling the board while being aggressive. But the normal Jesaki EDH deck is just Narset, Enlightened master as commander and then only spells and planeswalkers. But I love the idea of having young pyromancer on the field and then flipping into Raise the Alarm and Captain's call and just putting 5 tokens down for no mana. But I feel like this isn't good because I'm not gonna be able to do this consistently. The normal color for tokens is Naya but I want to also have the huge Blue card draw power so I'm in a weird spot. What should I do? I feel like this could be thing but I can't find it. I don't want to do 4 colors because that's more complicated and to clunky any suggestions? Also there could be awesome stuff for this Idea in Kaladesh so yea.

General Magic / Where do I start to build a good commander deck
« on: September 18, 2016, 12:54:49 am »
So I need to get a commander deck because it seems like a lot of the time I ask people if they play magic if they do they say "yea but only or mostly commander. I am not 100% sure of what style I want to play and I don't really know where to start. I like playing aggro, control, storm, combo based strategies, tokens, pretty much anything. Also I don't have a disposable amount of cash to work with but I will fill out the deck over time, and I have friends with a pretty large collection who are willing to donate some cards as well as trade for cards they want or just value trade. I am open to any suggestions
Thanks

General Magic / Re: Hey guys im looking for some help with a deck.
« on: September 18, 2016, 12:46:37 am »
That's a weird group of cards to build around they don't have a lot of synergy together. For example Tree of perdition doesn't really go with any of those cards and Oath of Liliana is only ok if you have a lot of planeswalkers in your deck. Bruna, the fading light is ok with decks that play mostly or all angels and humans, even then she isn't great because of how mana intensive she is. Now a few questions.  What play style are you trying to achieve? Do you want this deck to be competitive? What is your budget? What range of cards are including only standard playable cards or any card that has ever been printed?

How is having 3 different nissas and Chandra's gonna work? Also the Nissa cards are a little lackluster for me

What do you mean by 3 Nissa and Chandra? You mean the two released in the Starter Decks, the two released as a part of the Kaladesh Set and the Nissa, Voice of Zendikar and Chandra, Flamecaller from the Oath of the Gatewatch Set?

There is a superfriends deck, using Deploy the Gatewatch and that's a thing. It uses planeswalkers as control. I mean. I wouldn't necessarily use both or the others from the Standard Legal block in one deck... I am sure people could experiment, and whether or not it would work is dependent on who you play and what they play, no?

I would agree with you, the Nissa from the Starter Set is a little lacklustre, yes. However, think about Nissa, Vital Force for a second. As Jabilac mentioned her (+1) is a threat, a 5/5 land with haste, it allows you to un-tap a land, and then the creature stays on the field until your next turn, so you can use it as a blocker.
The (-3) is great in a delirium deck, or if someone has used a kill spell that hasn't exiled the target creature. Murder is a popular removal spell, atm.
And finally, the (-6) which, just think about it. Nissa is a 5m/5l in your next turn she ultimates (if you decide to -6)... ONLY 1 TURN! Which means that you get to draw an extra card continuously, as long as you have a land to play, which means that it allows you to keep your hand fresh, and increases your potential to find answers to your opponents actions.

I think this card is great, and in a ramp deck with landfall, it would potential be lethal.  :)

Btw guys, Chandra, Torch of Defiance has increased in value, she is now around ($40). Nissa, Vital Force is cheaper than Saheeli Rai, strangely. I don't rate Saheeli Rai, because of her lack of ability to defend herself or be a great threat.

Okay cool I can see how Nissa, Vital force could be good but I am still unsure but I agree even in the super friends deck the 2 started deck walkers aren't great I am excited to see how Vital Force and Torch of Defiance play.
