"Astrology has no thirteenth house back home in England, Mother Pharika. It stops at twelve. So I turned to the tarot, and the thirteenth card of the tarot is Death."
Dr. Kylie Moriarty intercedes when her clone of Avacyn is attacked by a vengeful Vraska. Vraska kidnaps Kylie and brings her to Theros, planning to destroy her in her clone of Avacyn's stead. Once there, Kylie uses her magic to fight Vraska, as the two vie to become the master of nature. A newcomer, Vivien Reid, is attracted to the magic and interves, bringing the two to peace.
So Kylie reveals to them her discoveries about the ecological damage the planeswalkers are doing, and both ladies decide they agree that planeswalkers are too dangerous to be free.
Now that they're on the same page, Kylie, starts creating creatures and spells that will heal and soothe Vraska's wounds, but the trio are soon discovered by Pharika, God of Affliction.
Kylie's medical knowledge outstrips even Pharika's, and so she invites the Brit to teach her all her surgical secrets, in return for being granted all of Pharika's knowledge of Theros medicine. The exchange of knowledge goes quite well, to the point where Pharika becomes the only deity Kylie considers to be real and worthy of worship.
A professional doctor by trade, Kylie's medical knowledge outstrips even Pharika's, and so the two begin to talk and trade medical secrets, healing spells, medicines, and surgical techniques.
It is Vivien who warns them that she was following an energy trail and that the energy is only getting stronger and closer to Theros. Pharika instantly prophecies that this will mean an attack. Then it is Vraska, who challenges the two healers that all their medical mastery won't be of any use against an attacker.
"What if we used the healing arts against them?" Kylie asked. With that, Kylie and Pharika began working on an Exquisite Blood and a clone of a Defiant Bloodlord.
At all this, Erebos, God of the Dead, and Nylea, God of the Hunt, are attracted by the power these three are using and come to see what's going on, only to find they willingly allow Kylie to clone them and send their clones in to help. She also produced clones of Bontu the Glorified, Rhonas the Indomitable, Nylea Keen-Eyed, and Erebos the Bleak-Hearted. These god clones were to distract and control the coming invader until the work was finished.
Kylie's medical mastery brings forth powerful healing, complete with a clone of Defiant Bloodlord and several ways to bring the whole graveyard back. With Vivien's help, she also creates a Helix Pinnacle.
Pharika supplies a band of repentant demons, with whom a contract based on Liliana's Contract is made. To protect it, Dr. Moriarty uses a Liquimetal Coating to turn the contract into an artifact, then uses a Lifecraft Awakening to turn the contract into a creature she can shelter.
Let the 13th House rise.
Strategy: The hexproof creatures are present so they can have enchantments placed on them that either allow light healing or protection from death. This is all intended to fuel Pharika's devotion, but once she's got it, enchanting her with a totem armor works quite well.
The most important creatures are the medical team, Essence Warden, Verdant Sun's Avatar, Social Climber, Ikra Shidiqi and Prosperous Innkeeper. This is also why there are cards that shuffle the graveyard back into the library.
It was getting a Beledros Witherbloom that finally made them go back to Slimefoot, the Stowaway and the Jade Mage, so that either pest or saproling would be able to give life to me and take it from enemies who dare attack me.
The team of demons and the contract are a distraction rather than a true win condition, but they also make a fantastic air defense and they can win the game.
Speaking of which, Pestilence Demon and Rite of Passage have a wonderful reaction together if you use him slowly, hitting all hands one point at a time. Dr. Moriarty's army will slowly gain +1/+1 counters - she always loved making mutants, while the enemy armies will slowly melt away.
If I gain life, you might lose it. It's good medicine for me but a fatal overdose for you.
Helix Pinnacle is an emergency win-con, but it has always worked well for me.
