General Magic / Amonket Soulstinger ruling
« le: Juillet 14, 2017, 07:26:08 pm »
Soulstinger

So last night this weird situation came up during a 2 hour game that would not end....

Playing a three player game and I attack the opponent to my left with 4 Soulstingers.  I attacked with them knowing they would all die so that I could in return put the counters from soulstinger on the player to my right's creatures.  Specifically the opponent my right had two Eldrazi Displacers and I wanted them to die because of the shenanigans they were pulling from bouncing creatures.

So damage is dealt and all 4 soulstingers die...   I try and move all 8 of the negative counters from my 4 Soulstingers to the two Eldrazi Displacer's to kill them both.   At this point the right player tries to respond by using the Eldrazi Displacer's ability to bounce the other to try and avoid them dying.

SO now on to the question....

510.2 Second, all combat damage that’s been assigned is dealt simultaneously. This turn-based action doesn’t use the stack. No player has the chance to cast spells or activate abilities between the time combat damage is assigned and the time it’s dealt.

603.2a Because they aren’t cast or activated, triggered abilities can trigger even when it isn’t legal to cast spells and activate abilities. Effects that prevent abilities from being activated don’t affect them.

Do these rules mean that the player can not respond with the activated ability's of Eldrazi Displacers?  Or does the ability from Soul stinger go on the stack after combat damage and then it is able to be responded to?

Thanks for reading and I appreciate help figuring this out:)

Deck Reviews / Sneak Attack Deck

Plan to hold off till turn 3 or 4 to get a sneak attack or amulet out.  (use gamble to try and tutor for amulet or sneak attack)
Use seething song to speed up turn 3.

Wall of razors to help with the first few turns while you sit there and gamble.

Bust open big ass creatures that all return to your lib when die... (or stay in play if you used amulet.)
Stack deck with Scroll Rack then each creature that dies allows you to shuffle your lib and you can scroll rack again if necessary.

Fling for the win if ya can.

I have play tested it a bunch and it can be very deadly with the Annihilator triggers but it still seems a little inconsistent so I am trying to weed out the kinks.

Deck Reviews / Vigor and Blasphemous act combo.

not sure if its gonna work or not...

as for having multiple must be blocked creatures in play.  Read this,

509.1c The defending player checks each creature he or she controls to see whether it's affected by any requirements (effects that say a creature must block, or that it must block if some condition is met). If the number of requirements that are being obeyed is fewer than the maximum possible number of requirements that could be obeyed without disobeying any restrictions, the declaration of blockers is illegal. If a creature can't block unless a player pays a cost, that player is not required to pay that cost, even if blocking with that creature would increase the number of requirements being obeyed. Example: A player controls one creature that "blocks if able" and another creature with no abilities. An effect states "Creatures can't be blocked except by two or more creatures." Having only the first creature block violates the restriction. Having neither creature block fulfills the restriction but not the requirement. Having both creatures block the same attacking creature fulfills both the restriction and the requirement, so that's the only option.

Does my opponent get to choose which of their creatures blocks each one or do I?
Nothing in the Lure ability says that you get to choose. The defender has to follow the maximum number of requirements without disobeying any restrictions.

One of the restrictions on the defenders, barring any additional abilities, is that they may only block one creature. Therefore, the defender must block one of your attackers and may choose which one to block, as that fulfills the maximum number of requirements without disobeying the restriction of only being able to block one creature.

What if one of those attacking creatures also has flying but the other does not?
Obviously, if a defender is unable to block creatures with flying (that is a restriction) that defender must block the one it is able to block.

If one of my opponent's creatures can block multiple creatures, must they block both?
If a creature is able to block multiple creatures it must meet the maximum number of requirements that could be obeyed, therefore it must block both creatures if able. (Unless that blocker is something like an Anurid Swarmsnapper… as rule 509.1c states, the defender is not required to pay a cost to increase the number of requirements obeyed.)

I felt like that clip needed to be said considering the ability of Vigor.

General Magic / Cheaters!!
« le: Février 08, 2016, 07:24:44 pm »
Recently among my friends we found out that a couple of them have been putting multiple cards in their card protectors!!!

How would you guys deal with this / how would you punish them?  Also consider that you have played with them for over 3 years and not a lot of people in the area play this game.

We are shaking our fist at them and unsure how to continue playing.

NOTE: We asked them to remove all their card protectors to continue playing... but when you have 100 dollar cards.. no one wants to take them off.

anyways..    Suggestions welcome:)

General Magic / Nature Shields Its Own Archenemy Argument!
« le: Décembre 28, 2015, 05:04:23 pm »
So me and my friends were playing a Archenemy game and this card came up.

Nature Shields Its Own.    http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=212577

Types:
Ongoing Scheme
Card Text:
(An ongoing scheme remains face up until it's abandoned.)
Whenever a creature attacks and isn't blocked, if you're the defending player, put a 0/1 green Plant creature token onto the battlefield blocking that creature.
When four or more creatures attack you, abandon this scheme at end of combat.
Ruleing.....
6/15/2010   You're the defending player if a creature is attacking you or a planeswalker you control.
6/15/2010   For each unblocked creature attacking you, you must put a Plant token onto the battlefield blocking it, even if you don't want to.
6/15/2010   The Plant token blocks the attacking creature even if the block couldn't legally be declared (for example, if the attacking creature has flying).
6/15/2010   Putting a blocking creature onto the battlefield doesn't trigger "Whenever a creature blocks" abilities. It also won't check blocking restrictions, costs, or requirements.
6/15/2010   Putting a blocking creature onto the battlefield will trigger "When this creature becomes blocked by a creature" abilities. It will also trigger "When this creature becomes blocked" abilities in this case, because the attacking creature had not yet been blocked that combat.
6/15/2010   The last ability triggers only if four or more creatures were declared as attackers during your opponents' declare attackers step. Only creatures attacking you are counted; creatures attacking your planeswalkers are not. The creatures may be controlled by different players.

Ok so we have the card and the ruling listed.

SOooo on to our argument.

For this scheme to trigger a creature needs to attack and not be blocked. (now this is key because its what started the argument)

Does this scheme apply for the opponents of the Archenemy as well?   According to the first ruleing "6/15/2010   You're the defending player if a creature is attacking you or a planeswalker you control."   So if the archenemy is the attacking player and I am the defending player do I put out the token out blocking as well since I am the defending player???

OR is the Archenemy the only one who benefits from this scheme?

Deck Reviews / DASH to victory!
« le: Octobre 19, 2015, 05:57:57 pm »
http://deckstats.net/decks/43244/342136-best-dash-deck-nuff-said/en

a dash of BAM!

1. Smoke, Onslaught, Uphill Battle, and breaking point set up Dash by eliminating blockers.
2. Extra creature tappers Goblin Heelcutter and Flamerush Rider to copy heelcutter and eliminate more blockers...
and arcane lighthouse to tap those creatures that cant be targeted by the above abilities.
3. War's Toll helps insure creatures are tapped if a opponent decides to attack(mana tapping is a bonus)
4 Flameshadow Conjuring obvious for More dashers!
5. Reverberate for the obvious utility(sooo much utility)
6. Browbeat because drawing a card is awesome... and why not get some blasting in there.
7. Fated Conflagration gets side-boarded a lot but vs my friends that play a lot of planeswalkers it has been very successful.
8. doesn't take too many turns to dash out enough damage to kill someone and it doesn't matter what your opponents creatures are if they are tapped:)

This has all of what I think makes dash work best:)

Thanks for viewing.
